Immigrant information.   Interesting

This Backgrounder provides a detailed picture of the number and socio-economic status of the nation’s immigrant or foreign-born population, both legal and illegal. The data was collected by the Census Bureau in March 2007.

Among the report’s findings:

The nation’s immigrant population (legal and illegal) reached a record of 37.9 million in 2007.

Immigrants account for one in eight U.S. residents, the highest level in 80 years. In 1970 it was one in 21; in 1980 it was one in 16; and in 1990 it was one in 13.

Overall, nearly one in three immigrants is an illegal alien. Half of Mexican and Central American immigrants and one-third of South American immigrants are illegal.

Since 2000, 10.3 million immigrants have arrived — the highest seven-year period of immigration in U.S. history. More than half of post-2000 arrivals (5.6 million) are estimated to be illegal aliens.

The largest increases in immigrants were in California, Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Of adult immigrants, 31 percent have not completed high school, compared to 8 percent of natives. Since 2000, immigration increased the number of workers without a high school diploma by 14 percent, and all other workers by 3 percent.

The share of immigrants and natives who are college graduates is about the same. Immigrants were once much more likely than natives to be college graduates.

The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 33 percent, compared to 19 percent for native households.

The poverty rate for immigrants and their U.S.-born children (under 18) is 17 percent, nearly 50 percent higher than the rate for natives and their children.

34 percent of immigrants lack health insurance, compared to 13 percent of natives. Immigrants and their U.S.-born children account for 71 percent of the increase in the uninsured since 1989.

Immigrants make significant progress over time. But even those who have been here for 20 years are more likely to be in poverty, lack insurance, or use welfare than are natives.

The primary reason for the high rates of immigrant poverty, lack of health insurance, and welfare use is their low education levels, not their legal status or an unwillingness to work.

Of immigrant households, 82 percent have at least one worker compared to 73 percent of native households.

There is a worker present in 78 percent of immigrant households using at least one welfare program.

Immigration accounts for virtually all of the national increase in public school enrollment over the last two decades. In 2007, there were 10.8 million school-age children from immigrant families in the United States.

Immigrants and natives have similar rates of entrepreneurship — 13 percent of natives and 11 percent of immigrants are self-employed.

Recent immigration has had no significant impact on the nation’s age structure. Without the 10.3 million post-2000 immigrants, the average age in America would be virtually unchanged at 36.5 years.

I keep running into interesting info.  Once I read this I know all is well now. I've been worrying about nothing.

Damn.   My wife tells me I worry about things that never happen.

Billary  should not gripe about being experienced but not given enough credit by the news.  Alots of loose ends out there. Yep, she's put her foot in it on and on again.

...I share--an e-mail from my American-Patriotic Daughter!

....(damn...I did something right)

===

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was
asked by
the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an
example of empire building' by George Bush.

He answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has
sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for
freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked
for in
return is enough to bury those that did not return."

It became very quiet in the room.

**************

Then there was a conference in France where a number of
international engineers were taking part, including French and
&a mp;n bsp;American.
During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room
saying "Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an
aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he
intended to do, bomb them?"

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: "Our carriers
have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they
are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore
facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000
people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of
fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen
helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from
their flight deck.. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?"
&nb sp; Once again, dead silence.

*****************

A U.S . Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that
included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French
Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large
group of
Officers that included personnel from most of those countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a
French
admiral suddenly complained that, 'whereas Europeans learn many languages,
Americans learn only English.' He then asked, 'Why is it that we always
have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking
French?'

This is pretty good!

&n bsp; Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied 'Maybe its
because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you
wouldn't
have to speak German.'

You could have heard a pin drop!

This is an e-mail I received. It is lenghty, but I think some of you will want to read it. It's written by a retired Brig General, -- see what he says about the Middle East situation.

I'm afraid we are in for a lot of bad times. bdb

==========

This may be considered a break in my political truce and I suppose it
is , but it is worth reading no matter your politics. This fellow
seems to know what he is talking about. And he is not a Bush
suporter.
Another assessment of where the US stands in relation to the Middle
East problems. This one is from the guy who had his finger on the
nuclear trigger for three years as head of our defense and response
complex buried under Cheyenne Mountain at Colorado Springs. He was the
only person who could initiate a nuclear attack after advising the
sitting president of a missile launch by our enemies and our need to
respond. No political or civilian type in the US had more knowledge
about day to day military actions around the wo rld. Everyone should
find quiet time to read this. As far as I am concerned, it is exactly
the direction we should go and the consequences of not doing so are
well thought out.
John R. (Jack) Farrington Major General, USAF (Retired)

============
Middle East Imperative

BY: JIM CASH, Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret.

I wrote recently about the war in Iraq and the larger war against
radical Islam, eliciting a number of responses. Let me try and put
this conflict in proper perspective.

Understand, the current battle we are engaged in is much bigger than
just Iraq What happens in the next year will affect this country and
how our kids and grandkids live throughout their lifetime, and beyond.
Radical Islam has been attacking the West since the seventh century.
They have been defeated in the past and decimated to the point of
taking hundreds of years to recover. But they can never be totally
defeated. Their birth rates are so far beyond civilized world rates
that in time they recover and attempt to dominate again.

There are eight terror-sponsoring countries that make up the grand
threat to the West. Two , Saudi Arabia and Pakistan , just need firm
pressure from the West to make major reforms. They need to decide who
they are really going to support and commit to that support. That
answer is simple. They both will support who they think will hang in
there until the end, and win. We are not sending very good signals in
that direction right now, thanks to the Democrats.

The other six, Afghanistan , Iraq , Iran , Syria , North Korea and
Libya will require regime change or a major policy shift. Now, let's
look more closely.

Afghanistan and Iraq have both had regime changes, but are being fueled
by outsiders from Syria and Iran We have scared Gaddafi's pants off,
and he has given up his quest for nuclear weapons, so I don't think
Libya is now a threat.

North Korea (the non-Islamic threat) can be handled diplomatically by
buying them off. They are starving. That leaves Syria and Iran. Syria
is like a frightened puppy. Without the support of Iran they will
join the stronger side. So where does that leave us? Sooner, or
later, we are going to be forced to confront Iran , and it better be
before they gain nuclear capability.

In 1989 I served as a Command Director inside the Cheyenne Mountain
complex&n bsp; located in Colorado Springs , Colorado for almost three years.
My job there was to observe (through classified means) every missile
shot anywhere in the world and assess if it was a threat to the US or
Canada. If any shot was threatening to either nation I had only
minutes to advise the President, as he had only minutes to respond. I
watched Iran and Iraq shoot missiles at each other every day, and all
day long, for months. They killed hundreds of thousand of their
people. Know why? They were fighting for control of the Middle East
and that enormous oil supply.

At that time, they were preoccupied with their internal problems and
could care less about toppling the west. Oil prices were fairly
stable and we could not see an immediate threat. Well, the worst part
of what we have done as a nation in Iraq i s to do away with the
military capability of one of those nations. Now, Iran has a clear
field to dominate the Middle East, since Iraq is no longer a threat to
them. They have turned their attention to the only other threat to
their dominance, they are convinced they will win, because the US is so
divided, and the Democrats (who now control Congress and may control
the Presidency in 2008) have openly said we are pulling out.

Do you have any idea what will happen if the entire Middle East turns
their
support to Iran , which they will obviously do if we pull out? It is
not
the price of oil we will have to worry about. Oil WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE
to this country at any price. I personally would vote for any
presidential candidate who did what JFK did with the space
program---declare a goal to bring this country to total energy
independence in a decade.

Yes, it is about oil. The economy in this country will totally die if
that Middle East supply is cut off right now. It will not be a
recession. It will be a depression that will make 1929 look like the
'good-old-days'. The bottom line here is simple. If Iran is forced to
fall in line, the fighting in Iraq will end over night, and the
nightmare will be over.

One way or another, Iran must be forced to join modern times and the
global community. It may mean a real war---if so, now is the time,
before we face a nuclear Iran with the capacity to destroy Israel and
begin a new ice age. I urge you to read the book 'END GAME' by two of
our best Middle East experts, true American patriots and retired
military generals, Paul Vallely and Tom McInerney. They are our
finest, and totally honest in their assessment of why victory in the
Middle East is so important, and how it can be won. Proceeds for the
book go directly to memorial fund for our fallen soldiers who served
the country during the war on terror. You can find that book by going
to the internet through Stand-up America at www.ospreyradio.us or
www.rightalk.com

On the other hand, we have several very angry retired generals today,
who evidently have not achieved their lofty goals, and insist on
ranting and raving about the war. They are wrong, and doing the
country great harm by giving a certain political party reason to use
them as experts to back their anti-war claims.

You may be one of those who believe nothing could ever be terrible
enough to
support our going to war. If that is the case I sh ould stop here, as
that
level of thinking approaches mental disability in this day and age. It
is right up there with alien abductions and high altitude seeding
through government aircraft contrails. I helped produced those
contrails for almost 30 years, and I can assure you we were not
seeding the atmosphere. The human race is a war-like population, and
if a country is not willing to protect itself, it deserves the
consequences. Nuff-said!!!

Now, my last comments will get to the nerve. They will be on politics.
I am not a Republican. And, George Bush has made enough mistakes as
President to insure my feelings about that for the rest of my life
However, the Democratic Party has moved so far left, they have made me
support those farther to the right. I am a conservative who totally
supports&n bsp; the Constitution of this country. The only difference
between the United States and the South American, third world,
dictator infested and ever-changing South American governments, is our
US Constitution.

This Republic (note I did not say Democracy) is the longest standing
the world has ever known, but it is vulnerable. It would take so
little to change it through economic upheaval. There was a time when
politicians could disagree, but still work together. We are past that
time, and that is the initial step toward the downfall of our form of
government.

I think that many view Bush-hating as payback time. The Republicans
hated the Clinton's and now the Democrats hate Bush. So, both parties
are putting their hate toward willingness to do anything for political
d ominance to include lying and always taking the opposite stand just
for the sake of being opposed. JUST HOW GOOD IS THAT FOR OUR COUNTRY?

In my lifetime, after serving in uniform for President's Kennedy,
Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush I have a pretty good
feel for which party supported our military, and what military life
was like under each of their terms. And, let me assure you that times
were best under the Republicans.

Service under Jimmy Carter was devastating for all branches of the
military.
And, Ronald Regan was truly a salvation. You can choose to listen to
enriched newscasters, and foolish people like John Murtha (he is no war
hero), Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Michael Moore, Jane Fonda , Harry
Reid, Russ Feingold, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and on-and-on to
include the true fools in Hollywood if you like. If you do, your
conclusions will be totally wrong.

The reason that I write, appear on radio talk shows, and do everything
I can to denounce those people is simple. THEY ARE PUTTING THEIR
THIRST FOR POLITICAL POWER AND QUEST FOR VICTORY IN 2008 ABOVE WHAT IS
BEST FOR THIS COUNTRY. I cannot abide that. Pelosi clearly defied
the Logan Act by going to Syria , which should have lead to
imprisonment of three years and a heavy fine. Jane Fonda did more to
prolong the Vietnam war longer than any other human being (as
acknowledged by Ho Chi Minh in his writing before he died). She truly
should have been indicted for treason, along with her radical
husband,Tom Hayden, and forced to pay the consequences.

This country has started to soften by not enforcing its laws, which is
anoth er indication of a Republic about to fall. All Democrats, along
with the Hollywood elite, are sending us headlong into a total defeat
in the Middle East, which will finally give Iran total dominance in
the region. A lack of oil in the near future will be the final straw
that dooms this Republic However, if we refuse to let this happen and
really get serious about an energy self-sufficiency program, this can
be avoided. I am afraid, however, that we are going in the opposite
direction. If we elect Hillary Clinton and a Democrat controlled
congress, and they carry through with allowing Iran to take control of
the Middle East , continue to refuse development of nuclear energy,
refuse to allow drilling for new oil, and continue to do nothing but
oppose everything Bush, it will be over in terms of what we view as
the good life in the USA

Now, do I think that all who do not support the war are un-American --
of course not. They just do not understand the importance of total
victory in that region.
Another failure of George Bush is his inability to explain to the
American people why we are there, and why we MUST win. By the way, it
is not a war. The war was won four years ago. It is martial law
that is under attack by Iranian and Syrian outside influences, and
there is a difference.

So, what do I believe? What is the bottom line? I will simply say
that the Democratic Party has fielded the foulest, power hungry,
anti-country, self absorbed group of individuals that I have observed
in my lifetime. Our educational system is partially to blame for
allowing the mass of America to be& nbsp; taken in by this group. George Bush
has done the best he can with the disabilities that he possesses.

A President must communicate with the people. And, I would tell you that
Desert Storm spoiled the people. Bush Senior's 100-hour war convinced
the people that technology has progressed to the point that wars could
be fought with no casualties and won in very short periods of time. I
remember feeling at the time, that this was a tragedy for the US
military. To win wars, you must put boots on the ground. When you put
boots on the ground, soldiers are going to die. A President must make
the war decision wisely, and insure that the cause is right before
using his last political option. However, CONTROLLING IRAN AND
DEMOCRATIZING THE MIDDLE EAST IS THE ONLY CHOICE IF WE ARE HELL-BENT
ON DEPENDING ON THEM FOR OUR FUTURE ENERGY NEEDS.

The other day we saw the news of the First Lady visiting sites in Saudi and Jordan.  It was for the purpose of cancer awareness for women.

But, I wondered if there were any repercussions to any of the Muslim women who attended.  Though Jordan and Saudi are not as bad as Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc. regarding women, I think we don't know all.

I found a distrubing video today.  Graphic.  It has even been dropped by UTube.  But if you wish to see how some Muslim women are treated, take a look.  It is graphic and heartrending.  But I think we need to know the truth about  Islam, whether it be 'moderate' or otherwise.

When you reach this site,  scroll down to the picture of the Muslim woman about to be noosed.  Click on the picture.  It will give you a video.

Those California people again. Rep Adam Schiff. Author and sponsor of the  proposed resolution for the U.S. to  recognize the Armenian genocide by the Ottoman Empire in 1915. Why?  Well, we just need to be on the "record" that we "recognize" it; and to give us credibility  to such people in the future like Jammerhead Ahmadinejad;   and to  let everybody know we are "understanding and sensitive"to such issues;  and to lend us an equal credibilty   right now, as we seek such  genocide condemnation in Darfur---and ....

Can you believe  the B+ull @#!$.?

When i studied civics many light-years ago, I don't remember this sort of crapolla  being part of what our Central Government was supposed to do.

I guess our reps and senators don't have enough to do up there, so they find an issue.

Of course the Armenians have been trying to stir this pot forever, and it comes in real handy now  and  I am sure they gleefully will dance about when our relations with Turkey as an ally, both politically and in the war effort, will be tainted by our passage of such a resolution.

1915-Turkey,   was a different country and a different time--for Pete's sake!

Let it rest.  No, the Armenians ain't gonna.  They  done wriggled into bed with Sister Pelosi and her gang. And they gonna have a paaaar- teeee!

Now I can understand why the Serbs  always stayed so psssed off over there.--with all the whining and pot-stirring.

BTW, one of my grand-mommas was half  American Indian.  So,  can I get ME  a resolution ?---of  "some sort"?  --you think?

----bullys..crappies.

from an e-mail I received. --------------------- Dick Morris sets the record straight about Mrs. Bill Clinton......

BILL CLINTON LEAVES TRUTH OUT OF HILLARY'S BIOGRAPHY by Dick Morris, former political consultant for both Clintons

(See Bill's 'commercial' at: www.hillaryclinton.com )
Check out Bill Clinton's syrupy five minute ad for Hillary. He introduces the commercial by saying that he wants to share some things we may not know about Hillary's background. His version of her biography is about as reliable as if it appeared in Pravda!

So, since I was there for most of their presidency and know them better than just about anyone, I wanted to make a few corrections;

Bill says: Hillary never wanted to run for public office, but she did want to work at public service.
The facts are: When Clinton was considering not running for another term as Governor of Arkansas in 1990, Hillary said she would run if he didn't. She and Bill even had me take two surveys to assess her chances of winning. The conclusion was that she couldn't win because people would just see her as a seat warmer for when Bill came back licking his wounds after losing for president. So she didn't run. Bill did and won. But there is no question she had her eye on public office, as opposed to servic e, long ago.
Bill says: In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the poor.
The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. She went to court every day as part of a law student monitoring committee trying to spot civil rights violations and develop grounds for appeal.

Bill says: Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a children's rights project for poor kids.
The facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the Panthers and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with him. < BR>
Bill says: Hillary could have written her own job ticket, but she turned down all the lucrative job offers.
The facts are: She flunked the DC bar exam and only passed the Arkansas bar. She had no job offers in Arkansas and only got hired by the University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville because Bill was already teaching there. She only joined the prestigious Rose Law Firm after Bill became Attorney General and made partner only after he was elected governor.

Bill says: President Carter appointed Hillary to the Legal Services Board of Directors and she became its chairman.
The facts are: The appointment was in exchange for Bill's s upport for Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. Hillary became chairman in a coup in which she won a majority away from Carter's choice to be chairman.

Bill says: She served on the board of the Arkansas Children's Hospital.
The facts are: Yes she did. But her main board activity, not mentioned by Bill, was to sit on the Wal-mart board of directors, for a substantial fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices.

Bill says: Hillary didn't succeed at getting health care for all Americans in 1994 but she kept working at it and helped to create the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides five million children with health insurance.
The facts are: Hillary had nothing to do with creating CHIP. It was included in the budget deal between Clinton and Republican Majority Leader Senator Trent Lott. I helped to negotiate the deal. The money came half from th e budget deal and half from the Attorney Generals' tobacco settlement. Hillary had nothing to do with either source of funds.

Bill says: Hillary was the face of America all over the world.
The facts are: Her visits were part of a program to get her out of town so that Bill would not appear weak by feeding stories that Hillary was running the White House. Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them.

Bill says: Hillary was an excellent Senator who kept fighting for children's and women's issues.
The facts are: Other than totally meaningless legislation like changing the names on courthouses and post offices, she has passed only four substantive pieces of legislation. One set up a national park in Puerto Rico. A second provided respite care for family members helping their relatives through Alzheimer's or other conditions. And two were routine bills to aid 9-11 victims and responders which were sponsored by the entire NY delegation.

Here is what bothers me more than anything else about Hillary Clinton. She has done everything possible to weaken the President and our country
(that's you and me!) when it comes to the war on terror.

1. She wants to close GITMO & move the combatants to the USA where they would have access to our legal system.
2. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of suspected Al Qeada phone calls to/from the USA.
3. She wants to grant constitutional rights to enemy combatants captured on the battlefield.
4. She wants to eliminate the monitoring of money tra nsfers between suspected Al Qeada cells & supporters in the USA.
5. She wants to eliminate the type of interrogation tactics used by the military & CIA where coercion might be used when questioning known terrorists even though such tactics might save American lives.
I can't think of a single bill Hillary has introduced or a single comment she has made that would tend to strengthen our country in the War on Terror. But, I can think of a lot of comments she has made that weakens our country & makes it a more dangerous situation for all of us........She goes hand in hand with the ACLU on far too many issues where common sense is abandoned.

She is a political disaster for all Americans

A Congressman was once asked about his attitude toward whiskey. He said, "If you mean the demon drink that poisons the mind, pollutes the body, desecrates family life, and inflames sinners, then I'm against it. But if you mean the elixir of Christmas cheer, the shield against winter chill, the taxable potion that puts needed funds into public coffers to comfort little crippled children, then I'm for it. This is my position, and I will not compromise."

--------

doesn't this describe all political issues?

I am still cogitating about this info. I rather doubt if anything I say will change a heart or a life, but one never knows.
