God’s Greatest Gift

by Bugs for the FOX4 blog, Keller, and Aunt Bee

And a bright shining star arose in the sky,

Bringing with it hope for the world, for you and I.

The shepherds quaked in mortal fear,

Until voices of angels they did hear.

“A prince is born unto you this day;

He comes to love you, to teach you and show you the way.”

To the stable beneath the bight shining star,

People did flock from near and far.

Wise men journeyed to reach the manger,

Bowing before a King who is no man’s stranger.

They brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh,

To give to Mary and the child born unto her.

And there on a fresh clean bed of straw,

Laid the son of God sent to save us all.

For this is the day we celebrate with joyous mirth,

The birth of God’s greatest gift ever given to earth.

I wanted to share a Christmas story with you guys, but it was way too long for the blog so I posted the first paragraph and a link to a “geocities” page I set up just for the blog.

Times were hard and I wrote this story as a Christmas gift for my family. I hope if you take the time to read it, you enjoy it as much as they “say” they did.

My Christmas Present to You

Snow fell silently around the tiny shack.  Smoke bellowed from the chimney and a warm orange glow filtered through the thin curtains hanging in the windows.  A deer nuzzled a barren bush as the gripping wind whipped a bitter cold chill around him. Inside, an elderly man sat alone rocking back and forth in front of a blazing fire.  His saddened face was worn and wrinkled; his hands tough like leather and his eyes were soft bluish gray clouds. In his lap sat a faded picture of a young man and woman standing in front of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. As a tear found a path down his cheek, he lovingly and gently stroked his hand across the photograph. Leaning back in his rocking chair and closing his eyes he drifted into an exhausted sleep.  The fire began to fade and cold quickly filled the room.

Continued…

Use this link: “My Christmas Story”, to read the rest but be warned, it’s about 6 pages long. Oh yeah, it has that version of “Silent Night” which I love that I was trying to share with you guys as the background so you might just want to listen to the music.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

…and as they say in the mountains,

“May Those ‘Infernal Revenuers’ Stay Away for Another Year!”

Thanks I_S. I hope you had a “zenful” weekend and have a Very, Very Merry Christmas!

Well - I wouldn't say "zenful".... I worked. Far from "Zen", that's for sure!!

I work tonight, too - but I don't have to go in till 1am - so that is a little relief, anyway.

But - after this - I have 3 days off - so that will help. I am kinda just ready for Christmas to be over - ya know?

“ready for Christmas to be over”? You sound like you can relate to TruBlu’s latest “Christmas Mystery” post.

I guess I’m lucky I don’t have to try to please anyone. People put themselves under too much pressure during this time of the year. I’ve trained my family not to expect anything from me and then when/if they do get a gift from, they’re always pleasantly surprised. LOL

Three days off?! By the time you go back to work you’re going to have “Wii wrist”.

HAHAHAHAHA @ "Wii Wrist"!!

No doubt!

It isn't even so much the gifts - it is trying to work, get gifts - and MAKE STOPS!!

We have 7 stops every year to make to family. We did one last night, 2 today - and we have 4 more tomorrow. Each is about 1-2 hours - and when we are all done - we are wiped.

I don't know how old the requirement is, or what the familial status has to be when everyone comes to YOUR house - but I am obviously not there yet.

And- if people would just stay married in my family - it would cut down on the "step", "ex", etc that keep getting added to the list of stops. Or - if some of the family would just move out of Texas - that could help, too.

But - almost 24 hours - and we will be done. While half of me looks forward to it every year - the other half of me DREADS it.

I do wish YOU the best Christmas ever, Bugs! Thanks for listening to me vent. Lord knows I can't vent to my family - someone would get their feelings hurt - ya know?

You can vent on my blog any time!

Honestly, would you really want all those people traipsing in and out of your house? I’d rather go there than have my relatives come here. My relatives don’t worry too much about hurting other people’s feelings; they just pretty much say what’s on their minds.

Nope, at least if I go there I can leave anytime I want; if they come here, there’s no easy way to tell them to leave.

I envy you so much I_S. Just think, tonight you’ll be delivering “Christmas babies”; I can’t think of anything more special.

I hope it’s not too eventful if you know what I mean.

"I hope it's not too eventful" - yes - I know EXACTLY what you mean!!

I am hoping the SAME thing!

After all - I have a full day tomorrow, and I am sure my only sleep will be in the car from place to place.

I can give you my badge and a wig - you can go in for me!! They will NEVER know!!

Well - you may have to walk on your knees..... being I am like a foot or so shorter than you I am guessing....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Bugs this is such a beautiful poem. Wish I could just reach through this computer and give you a big hug. You are so talented.
I want to read all of your Christmas Story, but we just got home from a party at one of my granddaughters house and this old lady is really tired. lol
So will wait until tomorrow when I will have more time and can read the whole story.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas.

I'm like I_S I'll be glad when it's all over.

No thank you I_S. You’re not getting me anywhere near a woman in labor without an epidural for her and 5 mg or Valium for me. Besides, I think the nose hairs would be a dead give away.

Hi Bee! You and Keller both mentioned my poetry lately so I wanted to write something for you two and of course the rest of the blog.

I don’t know about all that reaching through the computer; sounds painful to me, but thank you.

Merry Christmas Marks and of course, as always, everyone!

People are great! I love animals. Humor is very important as are tolerance and compassion. The “Golden Rule’ is good and “There but for the grace of God go I,” is true. My faith defines who I am as a person. I always learn a lot more when I’m listening than when I’m talking. Sometimes my humor and fingers run ahead of my brain so if I ever personally offend anyone, please smack me upside the head and tell me so. One of my all time favorite quotes is from the television show “Frasier”. “Civilization's not going to progress one iota unless someone points out when peoples' manners are remiss.” Daphne Moon. If I had to choose a movie which most paralleled my life, I’d be torn between Prince’s “Purple Rain” and “Forest Gump”. "Feather" from "Forest Gump" and "Purple Rain" are the theme songs posted on my "about me" page at my website. My life has been a wild and adventurous ride filled with laughter, pain, glamour, heartache, and joy. From one minute to the next, life never seems to be the same as the day before. I’m the epitome of narcissism and try to remain humble. Feel free to comment at any time, just, in the words of a popular blogger, “keep it real”. I’m here to have fun; please do the same.
