Using statistics from the US Department of Labor and averaging unemployment figures per party leadership, the numbers reveal an interesting phenomenon. Since 1947, unemployment always rose during Republican leadership and fell during Democratic leadership. Red arrows represent Republican presidencies and blue arrows represent Democratic presidencies. Remarkably, all of the blue arrows are turned down, indicating a fall in overall average unemployment, and all of the red arrows are pointing up, representing a rise in overall average unemployment from one party to the next.

The two lowest levels of unemployment took place during Democratic leadership and the two highest levels of unemployment took place during Republican leadership.

Every argument can be made from, “he inherited that” or “the previous president did this”, but the numbers don’t lie.  There were wars, the “.com boom”, 9/11, and all kinds of factors which influenced unemployment, but the bottom line is during every Democratic presidency, overall unemployment fell and under Republican leadership, unemployment ALWAYS rose.

President Bush and the Republicans have already earned a new red arrow pointing up.  As did his Republican predecessors, President Bush will end of his term leaving a higher, much higher, unemployment rate than former President Clinton handed him just eight short years ago.

We could discuss Reaganomics and the how they sent GW Bush, Sr. to the bench or we could talk about how President Bush is leaving the White House under the same dark economic cloud as his father.  We could talk for hours about how money doesn’t trickle down while poverty gushes upward, but the light bulbs in some peoples’ minds are permanently burned out and enlightenment is a foreign concept.

Surely people must realize by now the only difference in President Bush’s failed economic policies and Reaganomics is President Bush’s economic policies failed much faster than Reaganomics failed. His tax cuts to the rich, hands off economic leadership, and lack of foresight are having a far more devastating effect on our economy than the legacy of his father’s failed economic policies.

I guess some people just don’t learn.

That brings me down to my buddy Senator McCain. Senator McCain continues preaching status quo Republican economic policies without offering any change in direction. Unless Sen. McCain starts talking about taxing those who can afford to be taxed and replacing incentives to oil moguls to make billions off hard working Americans with incentives to bring down the price of fuel, he doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in a hot oven of winning these elections.

As long as the Republicans refuse to release their ideology of allowing the wealthy to keep more while taking more from the poor, they will continue to produce the economic failures of our present and their past.

ok, in order to rationalize these stats ya need to look at what was going on at the time , during Truman's tenure in the early '50's was the Korean war , and then the truce , enter Eisenhower , and down turn going from a war economy to a peacetime economy , from '62-'69, we had troops in Viet Nam , we were busy making war supplies and between the dead and wounded, there were fewer people available for unemployment , plus the added need for supplies for the war effort , by '75 all the troops were home and the war was over, hence lost jobs and more people looking for work , and thru all of this congress was in the control of Dems till '95 during the carter adminstration things were very slow , negative growth and by the end of Reagans term it was down considerably, during HW's term we had the 1st Gulf war enter Clinton and it rose briefly after he came into office, but then the Republicans gained control of congress and there was a substantial drop the till 2000, in 2001 we had 9-11 which reflects the increase UI benefits bye 2005 unemployment dropped to 4.5 till 2006 when the Dems regained control of congress and there has been a steady increase ever since, partially due to the slow down of necessary war materials , and when the troops all come home when this Iraq war is wound down, and the 130 thousand troops come home unemployment will go back up some more and if this economy remains stale and taxes go up it could be sometime before we see low unemployment rates .

an added note, I voted Dem from 1963 till the 92' elections, and that was the last one, I refused to vote for a draft dodger for president , and have had no faith in the Dems every since, still don't, and maybe never will , I grew up in a very Dem state where few Republicans ever get elected , and it is one of the worst tax and spend states in the country , it is nice to live in a state that is predominantly Republican !! I have worked hard and long thru all years of ups and downs never having any handouts to help me raaising kids with great pride in family and country , and am very nervous about the future of the country, but am encouraged to live in a state that has such a different philosphy than what I've been accustomed to for many years !

Eloquent comments....Did you ever win a job from a poor guy?

Taxing rich, OK I buy that but raising corporate tax rate to the highest in the world during an economic CRISIS when global competition is beating our world class companies - great idea.

The New Trickle Down Economic Strategy:

Increase BIZ tax so what will BIZ owners do?
Price increases, layoffs, exported jobs, reduced benefits, plant closures, unemployment...

Business doesn't pay taxes they pass it along to consumers and their employees or they go out of business.

Calculate everything that you buy...
Multiply that by 10%.... (Obama Tax)
That is what it costs everyone to vote for the Obama economic plan...
...great deal - $500 check from Obama vs. 10% of everything you buy from electricity to toothpaste.

Share The Wealth - ask GM, Ford, Chrysler, GE, all financial institutions, Airlines, Hotels, Restaurants, Movie Theatres, every local grocer, home builder, franchise owner, car dealer, small construction company or contractor....
...how much wealth or profit margin they can afford to share before closing the doors.

.......WHO PAYS........THE MIDDLE CLASS.....

T. Boone Pickens - the worst thing to do in this economy is raise taxes.

We did this once before when the economy was in the tank - The Great Depression.

People are great! I love animals. Humor is very important as are tolerance and compassion. The “Golden Rule’ is good and “There but for the grace of God go I,” is true. My faith defines who I am as a person. I always learn a lot more when I’m listening than when I’m talking. Sometimes my humor and fingers run ahead of my brain so if I ever personally offend anyone, please smack me upside the head and tell me so. One of my all time favorite quotes is from the television show “Frasier”. “Civilization's not going to progress one iota unless someone points out when peoples' manners are remiss.” Daphne Moon. If I had to choose a movie which most paralleled my life, I’d be torn between Prince’s “Purple Rain” and “Forest Gump”. "Feather" from "Forest Gump" and "Purple Rain" are the theme songs posted on my "about me" page at my website. My life has been a wild and adventurous ride filled with laughter, pain, glamour, heartache, and joy. From one minute to the next, life never seems to be the same as the day before. I’m the epitome of narcissism and try to remain humble. Feel free to comment at any time, just, in the words of a popular blogger, “keep it real”. I’m here to have fun; please do the same.
