I am an old timer. I raised my kids in the 60-70's. I was raised in the 40-50's.
I am conservative as far as raising kids. When I raised mine we had certain rules. No honkey-tonks--no dancing, no dating until 14 (or so)---and then the 'dating' was controlled...like we take you and pick you up--no sleeping around --even if you are 18 -19---as long as you are in my house--(hell, we did not even talk about 'sleeping around')-- no drinking, no drugs, no weed, no smoking cigarettes, and church three times a week, and studied hard in school.
That's pretty much how I was taught. My kids turned out pretty good I suppose. None of them have been to jail or prison--and none of them ever got on drugs. All of them do drink alchohol---the boys like their beer and my girl likes her wine. They don't go to church regularly--and one questions if there is a Higher Power.
When my wife's grandkids come (7 and 9) it's like D-Day. Running to and fro, all the tv's hooked up to play-stations and always going somewhere...like to the movies...etc trying to find something to keep them 'entertained'. The nine year old tells his Momma where to 'get off' sometimes and the 7 year old has this temper that gets him in anger management. The Momma and Daddy don't believe in too much harsh correction---and believe the kids should 'say what they feel'.
My second wife and I (20 years together) raised HER kids the same way I was raised.
So, we see some divergence here in our history and our genetics---or something.
Y'All tell me what it is?

I grew up in the 40's and 50's in a little country church.

We ran about 50 in Sunday School.

They run about the same now.

The church is the same size, but has been modernized.

And we put in a lunch room behind the church.

And the old grave yard is till out there.

We still are burying people out there.

The cows still come up to the grave yard fence.

The farmers still run their tractors out there in the field across from the church.

We have raised a lots of good farm-kids who have stayed on the farm or gone on to college, but made good Christians and citizens.

The children and great-grandchildren of this little church  ruminates into all of our great nation--with a Value System that is found in the honest, clean, hard-working, sweat-of-the-brow dynamics.

The preachers that came here were paid about what the normal congregation member made.

Most of the preacher  are still in the area, retired.  Living about the same as the normal congregation member who is retired.

What did we do with the money?

We kept the church maintained, we helped the community in need, and we sent money to  all sides of the world community  who had needs.

So, we have no air planes, and no Cadillac SUV's. We don't have preachers in who we have to meet a the air-port.

We just do it like the way we grew up.

And that has been enough for me.

What about you?

What is your take on the rich religious organizations?

Are they using the tax breaks in a correct way?

Should preachers wear $1000 suits, if most of the congregation does not?

Should preachers have two or three houses, valued into the millions, when most of the congregation does not?

I don't know.  I guess they would say it takes money to make money.

And big money is necessary for world-wide canvassing.

And jets are necessary to go and do  when you could not otherwise.

And on and on.

But, what does God think?

Here's a guy that can do it all.

Give you a sermon.

Give you relationship advice.

Get you in shape.

Take you on an adventure.

Help you attach your dream.

Maybe even heal you physically.

etc.

etc.

any of you ever hear of him?

when i first started reading I thought I was reading about the 'original' Paul.

you think this guy is for real?

Not long ago I tune in to the morning news and I see Diane Sawyer interviewing this Reverend out of Dallas. I believe his name was Reverend Rickie Rush. And the subject was on the stage with him. This man that robbed the preacher's office stealing some watches and such. They showed him on the video camera there where he was in the preacher's offices doing his bad. Well, I am looking to see what is this on National TV--something big enough to make the National Morning News with Diane Sawyer. Well, what it was-- was, the preacher is bringing forth the message that they forgave this young man--and this young man is sitting over there being viewed on National TV, and he had just been showed on the National TV News that he was running to and fro in the house unarthorized and doing unarthorized things. Diane Sawyer swung into some sort of interaction-communication with the Reverend and the young man there, but all the Reverend said is that they forgave this young man and took him in--and the young man is testifying that yeah he did that bad and was going to try to straighten up and all that.

The show on this went off of course in not a long time to other parts of the National and World News.

I am left there waiting --trying to figure out just what happened on National TV with the National and World News.

I think the bottom line was this church in SW Dallas got some things stolen from the church office, and they caught him on camera, and they found him, and forgave him, and now he evidently is a part of them...or maybe he was a part of them to begin with...but now he is 'under they eye' part of them.

I missed any part, if there was one, about Christ or God.

Kind of leaves me scratching my head. Oh yeah, I think that Pastor Rickie Rush is with that church called something like : Inspiring Body of Christ...., kind of like that Potter House church over there, which I think is much bigger.

But, did anybody else see that on National, World TV? And if you did, could you clear it up for me, as to how that level of a subject of crime and punishiment and redemption gets this National News Level of Coverage?

(some things just mesmerize me)

I've been here and there, and have seen this and that; have met these and them; and have done most things from there to here. It all accounts to not too much.
