Our thoughts and prayers go out to Scotty Wayne's family, friends and classmates. He was killed Saturday when the car he was riding in went off Interstate 85 north of Lexington and hit some trees.
Wayne was a star on Southern Guilford H.S. football team and had reportedly accepted a full athletic scholarship to East Carolina University.

Nearly half the workers in America expect to still be working by the time they hit 67 and not just because they'll need the money.
A survey by the U.S. division of Toronto-based Sun Life Financial finds more than 80 percent of those who plan to work past the usual retirement age say the main reason they'll be doing it is to stay mentally engaged.
So what about you? Have you considered working past retirement? Is it too early to panic?

The company that handles these blogs has scheduled a production release for this afternoon beginning just before 1 p.m. (eastern time). For several hours, the blogs will be set to "read only" status, which means you'll be able to see everything already posted, but you won't be able to post anything or make comments.
It's expected the maintenance will be completed by late afternoon, presumably before 5 p.m.

So,
Clay Aiken's a father. He didn't exactly do it the old-fashioned way, but the outcome was the same.
It's at times like these where the world stops to offer congratulations and words of advice to the new parents.
And here at myfoxwghp.com, we want to provide everyone with the opportunity to wish Clay and his baby well, as well as give some advice to the new father. Go ahead and leave your thoughts and advice in the comments below.
We have no idea how to get in touch with Clay, but
maybe he's reading these blogs. We can only hope.

The images are disturbing and hard to watch, and now police say they've
caught the man who was
caught on tape hitting and kicking several dogs in a High Point backyard.
The case is particularly interesting because police initially arrested and charged the wrong man. He
protested his innocence, and eventually received an apology for the mix-up.
The
abused dogs have since been euthanized, because officials said they were beyond help and would pose a danger to someone who adopted them.
All around, it's been a sad story.

- The sale of malt beverages
- The sale of wine
- Whether ABC stores should be allowed
- Mixed beverage sales in restaurants

Asheboro finally get with the times or should they stay the same, and not allow these changes?
Let us know what
you think below!

An article in the July edition of Reader's Digest discusses what doctor's around the country really think about you, the patient.
Some of the quotes mentioned in the article:
- "When a doctor tells you to lose 15 to 20 pounds, what they really mean is you need to lose 50."
- "I have patients with whom I spend enormous amounts of time, explaining things and coming up with treatment strategy. Then I get e-mails a few days later, saying they were looking at this Web site that says something completely different and wacky, and they want to do it. To which I say (but I don't), "So why don't you get the Web site to take over your care?"
- "We deal more commonly with old people. So we become much more enthusiastic when a young person comes along. So the younger and more attractive you are, the more likely you are to get more of our time."
- "Doctors are only interested in whether they are inconvenienced - most don't care if you have to wait for them.
So, what do you think about the comments made by some doctors around the country? Are the appropriate? Do you expect more from your doctor, or are the comments expected?

On his radio show, host
Michael Savage recently made several inflammatory statements about autistic children and the diagnosis of the disorder. He called autism "a fraud and a racket" and said that, 99 percent of the time, autism is a brat who hasn't been told to cut out the act.
Parents with autistic children and other autism advocates obviously are up in arms over Savage's remarks. Clearly, he overstated things.
But upon further review, it seems to me that Savage's intent was not conveyed by his words. Essentially, he wanted to say something other than what came out.
I suspect Savage meant to rail against the over-diagnosis of autism, not against children who actually have the disease. He apparently thinks doctors and/or parents are too quick to label a child as autistic just because he or she is a "brat." I doubt Savage would deny that some people actually have autism, and they're not just brats participating in a racket.

This September, Mattel plans to release
Black Canary Barbie as part of its "Barbie Loves Pop Culture" series. The company says it's a tribute to the DC Comics character and comes dressed in the trademark black leather, fishnet tights, and black boots the character always wore in comic books. Some religious groups disagree, and say the doll is just too racy. Has Barbie finally gone too far? Or should groups back down and take the doll as Mattel says it's intended -- a tribute to popular culture?

Will you add
Black Canary Barbie to your collection?
