As a mother and an ex- teacher in private school , I support the decision that was made to remove the Harry Potter books from the catholic school in Mass. I think that more private christian schools should follow this example. As a private school, christian in nature, it is supposed to uphold and teach what is biblically correct. Yes the books are fantasy but they are based in spiritual beliefs. There are many people out there who practice different spiritual activities and many are contradictory to what the bible teaches. If you are going to be a christian and put your child in a christian school than you need to support and uphold what the bible teaches, otherwise you are a hypocrite.
There are many parents and teachers out there who praise Harry Potter books simple because it craeted an avid reader out of there child and honed their reading skills. Yes it is wonderful to find books that spark an interest in our children but we really must be responsible in understanding the content.
As parents you try to feed your children healthy food to promote a healthy body. As parents and teachers we need to feed our children's minds with healthy information. If you profess christianity and you are going to allow your children to read Harry Potter you should at the very least understand the spiritual concepts in the books and how they are contrary to the bible. Educate your children about the supernatural, good and evil, and how people are drawn to the forces thereof one way or another.
