I want to hear everyone's opinion on rather you believe there is a race double standard here in America.

How is that  hip-hop songs that are filled with hate, or stand up comedians who are black, are able to get away with saying the same comments and jokes that white people do?

Is this country, so sensitive and/or afraid of controversy from the black race, that they fail to see they are creating a double standard?

Or is that, when a comment or joke is made about a black it is more blown up, than comments and jokes made about whites?

Racism wouldn't be an issue if this country of different colors, beliefs and standards would be treated equally.

In Conclusion, we can't punish one race..and give the other one a free ride to speak or act how they want, out of fear or a lawsuit or complaint from a National agency, who turns simple comments into a world wide attack on a particular race.

With respect to everyone,

Bella

Great post , and nice pic Bella . America needs to re-develope thick skin as to not be offended so easy . What-ever happened to " sticks and stones may break my bones , but names will never hurt me "?

I want racial equality in this country but we can't have it as long as any race is given special treatment. Not just blacks but even the Indian Nations. I hope in my lifetime to see Martin's dream come true, but it can't happen when any race is treated different.

Loved your post. I agree with you. I see people as people not as colors, but I have to admit, I feel eggshells piercing my soles when I talk about people and / or situations that involve diversity. I stop and think what is politically correct at that moment . . . hmmmm??? White man or Caucasian; black man, man of color, African American; Native American or American Indian and the list grows as our Country's diversity expands. I was elbowed years ago for using the term, "Oriental," rather than, "Asian." It was at that second, that first bite of the apple, that I became aware . . . and my open, honest, (and yes, perhaps ignorant) heart began monitoring and editing itself.
Remember that Seinfeld episode about political correctness and the Cigar Store Indian? That was so funny and so right on!
I feel if one (meaning a person WITHOUT ill intent) cannot speak freely without worrying about offending another, and if one cannot be lighthearted amongst a group of friends without being taken out of context . . . well then, we have captured and boxed our freedom.
I know lines will always exist - just as every blessing is a curse - the lines serve to create some form of order and acceptance. But I think the whole race thing has gotten out of hand. It seems worse to me today then when I grew up watching the planes fly overhead, from Selfridge into the rioting streets of Detroit.
That is a shame! And much because of over-sensitivity.
I am not at all condoning racial slurs nor can I ever truly understand the pain behind those comments - because I was born with white (kind of chalky w

Ooops - I was cut off!
To continue:
I was born with white (kind of chalky white LOL) skin.
But I do know, as women, comments made against women only serve to make me stronger and more determined to prove the naysayers wrong.
A friend of mine once said, "If I were a racist, no one would know about it."
That about should sum this up.
Hope I didn't use all your minutes on this message! LOL

Hi Bella,

Absolutely there is a double standard! I think we are all seeing it now with the Imus situation because it is so obvious and also because people have begun to talk about it openly. An insult is an insult is an insult. It really is not necessary, nor quite honestly is foul language.

But, if you are going to punish one person for it, then you should punish everyone who is doing the same thing. Gosh, I'm one of them so it's okay IS NOT an excuse for bad behavior!

Punish one but not the other...depends on the extent of comments made, the arena in which the comments hit the audience and that persons's status. Example: IMUS is/was on radio and tv, daily. Chris Rock in a comedy club or HBO special not worth it, no BIG Money to be lost.Plus someone like a Rock knocks on all races. Bottom line some items just won't go away, We just have to learn how to handle it. Sometimes turn away, sometimes fight, it all just depends.

Very good post! However, whites created what is now out of hand, racism!

RUKidding made the comment, in part, "...But, if you are going to punish one person for it, then you should punish everyone who is doing the same thing..."

Black people have been saying that for years, and now, suddenly because a white man is being publicly scrutinized, for what I too, think is overblown and unfair because others do and say exactly what Imus has done/said, you now want some fairness. Very hypocritical.

Finally, the issues of race must be dealt with. Praise God!

Cynthia, that is exactly the kind of thought process that fuels BS like this. Because of something that happened years and years ago people think they get special treatment. It doesn't matter WHO started it.

If you really want to get into it, black people weren't introduced to slavery by the Americas. There was slavery in Africa among the tribes. There has been slavery and servitude on record as far back as historical records go. As far as whites creating racism, that's also a crock of @#!$. Study your history a little better. Racism is as old as man when they began discovering other cultures

How very closed-minded of you. You're guilty of the very thing you say should be dealt with. Praising god doesn't make you right either. If you really think this is one-sided you need to read into the debate much deeper than you have. Many of us have said that no side is right. The comments are wrong, many of us just believe that it has become a double standard as far as who they persecute. If you truly can't see that, then you are blind to the facts.

Very Good Response DetMed. Disregard everything Cynthia says. She has proven by past post that she is nothing but a hater. Her words are vile towards anything not black. She does not understand history. You are correct as far as slavery is concerned.
Good Post.

There is definitely a race double standard here in America. Could you imagine the backlash if whites were to form an "all-white" college or fraternity? I don' think so. How about the NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People)? Yeah right!

Cynthia, I disagree with you..Whites didn't create racism.

Actually, blacks were racist toward each other even before slavery.

That is just like this country, if we are divided and fail to stand together..Terrorist will at least try to tear us down.

One weak link causes the whole damn chain to be weak. I don't know if that was worded right but, you get my point.

Anyway, whites looked at the problems and racism among the tribes.

It was actually, a leader of tribe who sold the others into slavery for gold and wine.

And still today, I am looked at as an outsider to the black community because,

(1) They say I talk and act "White".
Why is speaking proper english, white?

Or listening to rock/metal a white thing?

(2) I am mixed with 3 different backgrouds..Apache, Sicilian and black.

(3) My kids are mixed with white. Now, this is apparently, the mistakes you can do to a black community, I still haven't figured that one out.

The black race is the only race who continues to bring each other down, and it isn't anyone else's fault but theirs. =\

Wanna know something Belle, Last night I sat here with a good friend of mine. We watched MSBN, as we have been for days its seems, we wanted to SCREAM, and in fact in a few times we did..lol..It was all due 2 the double standerds, Then she noticed I had my Pic on my bio, and told me I should take it off, because if one of my comments ticked off anyone that saw n knew me, I might get n a bit of trouble. Kinna freaked me out, but enough to take it off. Now today, I comment on Colts page and he stated blogggers beware, same thing she said more or less, I was like U have to be kidding me right. Everyone is so afraid to speak there minds beacuse of the what ifs, I admit sometimes I am 2, but the older I get, seems as a white woman Im finally getting some Balls, when needed. How can I tell my kids to stand up for themselfs if i cant. The way my sons friends talk 19 btw , of all races, and im sure my son 2 when i cant hear him I do not tolorate, and they know they had better not disrespect me. Can and will wash there mouths out with soap still.lol I wonder if its all teens, and the times, and it scares the chit out of me they call eachother names, but 1 slip at a party or wherever, then what. Told them and told them, they dont get it. I think ive gone off the topic, sorry, ive quit smoking today and well, I will hush now. Just wanted you 2 know that you have a great blog today, and ty for it.Luvs

yes, on double standards. Firing Imus was just the proff of black power, have watched the voting on all channels, 67% of the people say don't fire Imus, 32% said fire him, The rest did not care. Al Sharpton and his small group of head hunters got him. Black person can say anything about a white with out retaliation.
