This question goes out to anyone who knows how to do the ab crunch.

I am a beginner at Ab exercises and I have recently starting doing the basic ab crunch.  I've got the overall technique down pat.   It is just I can't get my shoulder blades to come off the ground.  Another thing is most of the time I end up doing like a sit up instead of a crunch  Is this normal for beginners like me?  Any advice?

Also if you would happen to have any other beginner ab exercises please let me know.  Thanks!

I'd say if your shoulders are coming up, if you aren't already doing so leverage your feet under something.

Sit ups really aren't that good for your back, so make sure you are only going half way up and hold the crunch there. Isometric workouts like that really help build the muscle quickly.

I was always told to keep your neck straight, and push your chin towards the ceiling. As your abs get stronger, your shoulders will start coming further off the ground. I was also told to keep my feet flat on the ground to keep the lower back pressed against the floor for support, except when working your obliques. I have seen personal trainers on this site, maybe they can give you professional advice.l

Also, make sure to direct your crunches to either side to diminish the LUUUUUUUv handles

Hey everyone! I am an avid weather fan and I am planning on becoming a Meteorologist one day. I am 21 yrs. old and I attend a local Community College where I'm working on my Associate in Science degree. I am planning on transfering to another college after a couple more years to study Meteorology. I graduated from a Christian School in 2005. On our Senior trip, we took a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. It was awesome! I would love to back! I was in the NHS, student gov't, and Journalism class at my high school.
