What is the deal with traffic in Grapevine?
Every road that goes through Grapevine bottlenecks and causes backups for miles. Going North on 121 and wanting to proceed West on 114, why take it through all those lights when a simple overpass would eliminate the backup.
121 North backs up to 114 because of the two lights when overpasses would solve the problem.
Going Southbound on 2499 by the Mills Mall backs up for miles in the mornings and evenings, why can't the lights be programmed differently?
114 west at the 121 split, why don't they make more lanes as originally intended.
Is it the Grapevine City Council or what that are making these VERY POOR plans? Can anyone educate me on this? Going Crazy!

Great questions! Last Friday I can tell you that traffic was a nightmare by the mall because the signals were off line at the 121/Sandy Lake interchange. Workers there had to get some work done and Grapevine had officers directing traffic. By your frustrations displayed on your blog I'm betting that it was still a slow grind despite the police presence!

As for the lack of progress on the expansion plans of 114 and 121: The problem lies with TxDOT which claims they have no money for the projects that have been given the green light. This includes the Grapevine/Southlake project. Of course if the city wants to re-submit the expansion as a tollway....well don't get me started there!

Me guess is that the location of Grapevine being in the middle of everything creates traffic traveling through, from and to other areas of the metroplex. People typically always take the shortest route by miles even though it can be the longest by time.
Chip has a good handle on it and sees it from a different view than we do almost every day.

Maybe when 121 through the Grapevine mills area is finished and made into a toll road, then TxDot will take those tolls and build the interchanges for 121 / 114 that will have us in the mid-cities, miserable for years to come.

They could charge to use the new interchanges and that would pay for the new tolls on 360 off 121 and the 183/121 merge. Hmmm sounds like a Plan our state govt. would go for.

When I first moved to Euless so many years ago, none of any of that was here. We still had 2 lane tree lined streets for 157 - we had a a lot of open spaces, cows and no one came to the mid-cities and Grapevine unless you were cutting through to the airport.

I long for those good old days. I'm thinking I would need to move to Oklahoma to ever see them again.

Don't forget 161 south of 183! It looks like that will become a toll road as well, even though the state should approve over $150 million to build the rest out in this next session.

You won't see Chopper chip say anything about it. I already checked. That's okay. None of the other channels have the guts, either. We are about to see much more bloodshed. See my blog about TX. D.O.T. under NEWS.
