I read this article and I kind of worry. How a clerical error can put your life in such a mess. I simply cannot believe that such errors can be made and the people in SS and IRS cannot get it straightened out between themselves. Does anyone know why this has to be? Other kinds of mistakes in this world are made every day and we get it straightened out by bringing it to their attention. Do you think IRS/SS are not really doing their job?...or is it something else here?

Regarding this tragedy--if you were a woman who believed this woman's underwear left at the crime was yours---would you come forward handily--or would you be freaked out at all the possibilities that might get you embroiled with the police?
