It's a party old folks style....!!

BillyPeek-TheAnswerFront-1.jpg Billy Peek - The Answer image by zotyapapa55

Forget the Hip Hop, Disco, Swing, Country, and Modern Rock and what you have left is some good old fashioned Rock N Roll and Blues........ Add in the pristine setting of the Club Villa and a room full of 30 something to 70 something old hippies and you have encountered a Billy Peek night....... Billy has been in the St. Louis area as long as I can remember and never fails to turn a little magic out of his guitar.....Billy has played with Chuck Berry and Rod Stewart and his style of music is a smooth blend of Classic Rock and Blues.....  The dance floor usually fills up in the middle of the first set and stays full until the end of the night.... No idiots,,,,, Just a lot of great folk...... Going out to see old bands is one of my favorite things to do....... It seems that the volume is lower and the music is better..... Next sunday I plan to attend a benefit and see another band that I have not heard of since the late 70's......... It's a band called Mack's Creek........ If I remember right they played a lot of Southern Blues like the Allman Brothers..... I'll be sure to have camera in hand.......

When's the last time you partied "Old Folks Style"?

OH! MY! I remember one time we decided to go to a local bar in Farmington, as someone we knew said you all need to come down they have a live band and a bunch of us get together on Saturday nite and have a ball.
So we decided to go.
OMG! I don't drink (Really you didn't need to drink you got a high in there watching these ladie's and gent's in their 60's (At that time I was 40)and 70's some in their 80's up there dancing to everything played that night,. I could not keep up with them for sure.
But I am not a bar person, First and last time we went there. But it was an enjoyable evening, Just loud and smokey.Hoorah! to old folk's.

In reference to the Blog Title...

I love blues... But I just want to say that when I walk into a Blues Club I've seen some really bad blues being played by folks trying to copy a style they weren't geneticly suited for... I think that the blues is best played from your own point of view and your own style of singing or playing.

It was like when Carrie Underwood did an Aretha Franklin song without trying to copy either Aretha or any other artist like Aretha. Carrie Underwood did an Aretha Franklin song like a country girl. It didn't work for the judges and I was in total disaggreement. I remember on the next show the judges all apologized. In truth it was sheer genius as she has since shown.

No... to answer your blog question... a "white" boy cannot play the blues... but a boy that isn't bothered with being white can be he Euro/Anglo or Slavic American. Doris Day has a soulful voice singing the way Doris Day sings. But Dinah Shore could handle alittle more of what was called soul for obvious reasons. In a nut shell if it's not copycat... and it's good... it'll work. As long as it's you... just you doing it.

Well this one can....... It is also the title of one of his Songs....... You can hear part of that song on the video Harp posted..... You would have never this old haychucker that lives in this country boy body could have ever been a disco dancer but In the late 70's I was.......

No sorry we can't really judge a book by it's cover.......

Oh I forgot to mention two others that don't do a bad job on the blues at all.......

J J Cale and Eric Clapton...... Have you ever heard the album Riding With The King....

"No sorry we can't really judge a book by it's cover......."

I never said you could... all I tried to commuicate is that "a boy that isn't bothered with being white" can indeed play the blues. To put it more specificly. Copycats are just that... Van Morrison and Clapton play the blues in their own style and they get away with it because they are talented musicians playing a style of music.

Sorry... you put the white cover on the blues book and the question itself is absurd. Are you Mr Wildflower or are you white? Can Mr Wildflower play the blues? I don't know and I don't care... you're white? Really? Good for you! So am I alittle and why bring it up? Just be the sad man behind whatever color your eyes are and play to the best of your ability.

Well your taking this conversation in a direction I don't want to go...... This blog has nothing to do with race and you are trying to throw that in here..... You are from Los Angelos and do not realize that the title of this bog is the title of the song that Billy Peek is most known for....... Billy Peek is from St Louis and everybody around here knows him well....... He has also been a member of Chuck Berrys band and Rod Stewarts Band.....
Sorry I refuse to get into racial charged conversations.......

I love the Blues. I have been to so many blues concerts that I can't even count.
Mama's Pride
Stevie Ray Vaughn
BB King
Fabulas Thunderbirds
Eric Clapton ( both when he was trashed and straight)
Johnny Winter ( Now thats a white Boy )
John Lee Hooker
Alvin Lee
Allman Brothers

I know that BB and John Lee are not white boys but killer Blues.

Oh, I forgot one more white Boy:
Kenny Wayne Sheppard

I know and I'm sorry... (been reading and writing a lot of blogs about the subject lately)

I grew up in Alton... Recently lived in Wood River...

Had a couple of Caucasian friends growing up try to play the blues and think they were getting away with it. I've made the suggestion a few times that they try less to copy and to play from the blues within themselves.
