Everybody knows that this isn't REALLY about smoking. It's about having the Government decide on something that is supposed to be a choice for a U.S. Citizen--FREEDOM to do as we please, as long as said thing is LEGAL.

There are just as many toxins in the foods we eat, and lots of other products that we use, that have the potential to cause more harm than cigarettes ever could. It's just that cigarettes smell the worst, so that's what people hone in on. Nobody ever wants to think of (or admit) THOSE things, because then their cigarette "argument" would not have as much validity. Just ask any parent who has lost their child to suicide from Accutane, which was supposedly prescribed (by dr's-the same people who say smoking is bad for you) to help a person who has acne. Or maybe, the supposed cancer-causing agents from cell phone usage. Oh, and let's not forget all of the toys that have high levels of lead that people KEEP buying because they WANT to.

No no one wants to pollute the air, or other people's lungs, but when we find ways to make emissions from vehicles safe, and can keep smokestacks on top of buildings from spilling out into the air, (including Crematoriums who by law, MUST cremate AIDS victims--and where does THAT smoke end up?) then I might be in favor of banning cigarettes in public.

Oh, and don't forget about all of the workers who work in those factories. They help contribute to all this pollution that the moral majority is so concerned with. If they really want to help everyone breathe easier, then QUIT working at those kinds of jobs until safer practices are in place. 'They can't afford to quit you say?', maybe not, but this all important ban on substances with the probability of making others sick must be stopped at any, and ALL costs---RIGHT? So it should be a small price to pay, IF the real reason behind all this is people's health. It shouldn't matter what the cause is. If it ALL is causing problems, then it ALL needs to be banned, not just what people CHOOSE to be banned because they "don't like it."

OK, all done now.

Hi mrs, hope all is good with you and your family. I myself quit smoking about 8 yrs, ago.If someone want's to smoke it's their business and I don't think they should be discriminated againest,it's their choice and the choice of each business if they allow smoking or not,as it is the choice of the non smoker to go to a place that allow's smoking or one that ban's it. What I'm trying to say is that I believe that we all should have that choice.

I get sick around smoke so I guess you know how I feel about the issue! I have avoided joining bowling leagues and have stayed away from many social events because others have pushed their bad habits on others! There have been times when I have said get the heck away from me! The warnings have been on cig packs since 1969 so its not a new issue!

Hi Rita! I believe the same way. It should be the choice of the individual business.

And Steve, you have a valid point as well. Places like bowling alleys are a bit different, and SHOULD probably have a ban on smoking. People who enjoy bowling, and want to bowl, should be able to bowl in a league, or otherwise, without the worry of cigarette smoke. It's not like there is another choice if you want to enjoy the sport of bowling.

The places I'm talking about are places where you can do the same thing all over town (like bars & restaurants). Make it up to the individual business owner to decide what they want to allow in their business. That way, we still have the choice to patronize that place, or not.

It's just that when the Gov't gets involved, we have lost our right to choose. ...Again.

Thank you both so much for your input, it is appreciated, and respected.

Take care!

I would tell them to kiss my a.. . Or how about that lovely smell while driving over the Rouge River ? MMMm , yeah , I guess we'll have to pick on the smokers , after all , look at all the taxes we get off those cigs .

Ah HA, another "COW-ard" who deletes replies to their postings. It must be hell to live in your Ivory Tower of Contempt because you feel it doesn't match your image of pristine.

And to think, we were being very nice by replying with an issue we believe in. Lordy, Lordy, now the games begin.

Every time I hear this debate I think of that movie basic instinct. "what are you gonna do charged me with smoking." How can you ban something that is legal? One of my sisters stays in ElCajon Ca. and you can't smoke in public period, even out side, but you can still buy cigarettes. I don't smoke because I want to, in fact I feel guilty for even craving one, because I had surgery for Lung Cancer in January and quite smoking for all of three months. It is not an easy habit to break or afford. My other sister is allergy to cigarette smoke. It's all about respecting others who don't smoke, which I do, but cigarettes should be no more legal then weed or cocaine if it's that unhealthy. After smoking for 50 something years, it's going to take more then just the need to stop. Has anybody got a fool proof way to stop?

I agree Carolej.

And you know, it's not that I am trying to push smoking, I guess I am pushing freedom of choice. I too, try to be considerate of non smokers. I won't even smoke in my home, or my car when I have a non smoking passenger, because the rest of my family doesn't. They should be able to live in their home without it. Places away from home are visited by choice, not because you HAVE to be there.

I don't even smoke more than a few cigarettes a week, so I guess it bothers me, again, because it should still be MY choice.

I wish I had a fool proof way to stop for you.

Take care.

Carole , I wish I had a fool proof cure for smoking , because if I did , I would use it .
Hot D , the only thing I can say is , since I had my left lung removed , I've cut my smoking in half . Jk .

The three months that I quit I got my taste buds back and my sense of smell. I go out on my balcony to smoke because I can't stand the smell of smoke in my senior apartment. I won't stop trying to quit. Some days are better then others. They took a wedge out of my left lung so it wasn't as bad. The kick is I went for a check up. I didn't have any symptoms and the X rays showed a spot. Lucky I went when I did.

Most people I know that quit , start eating like fiends , because of their newly re-aquired taste buds . I hope you haven't fallen victom to those Carole . If you do , just have some foods you don't like on hand for a snack .
You can make yourself cheap flavored water [ helps trick you into thinking your full ] by adding a drop or two of all natural extract or extracts [ whatever flavor floats your boat ] to 16oz. of water , and then add a small amount of sugar to taste [ they charge you a buck or two apiece at the store ] .

We bad Mrshubbyds, for it was not your deletion, but of another coward. We offer you our apologizes. We (I) was a smoker from the time of 29 until age 49. 20 years of sucking chemicals out of a paper cover was not enough to stop smoking. Standing outside the job in -30 degree weather was not enough to stop smoking. Losing friends because of your body odor of smoke wasn't enough to quit smoking. Having my heart stop during a major surgery and being placed in ICU under a sedated coma, was "ENOUGH" to make me quit, and the reason was fear. Fear that I would never see my spouse or children again, or fear that all I've worked for would be gone, was the straw that finally hit. Do we condone smoking? Nope. Do we hang around smokers? Yup, we do. Do we allow it in our house? If and when the weather permits them on the deck or in the house, but in our garage. But leave the business's control where and when the smokers go. Don't punish one group to satisfy another group. That's ridiculous

Absolutely true TheMidevils.

I am very sorry to hear of the surgery you had to endure. You have my best wishes for your continued recovery.

I guess we never seem to think that something is serious, until it affects us personally. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

As for the ban, I too, think they need to leave us alone. Let the businesses decide.

....period.

Take care MiDevils!

Whoa, don't sweeten this post like you just did Mrshubbyd. It was merely a story, but we're not done fighting yet. Sooner or later one of us will repost a blog and then it's going to back to cat fighting.

We have yet to back down.........

AH HAH, so that is what it boils down to... ban the smokers from having a good time so that the non smokers can stay at the bar longer to get drunker, THEN to go out driving to kill school children.

You holier than thou nonsmoking liberal RETARDS who never served a day in uniform EARNING their RIGHTS as smokers want to turn this place into a communist state.

I have one question for you; what is the difference between a communist and a democrat? Answer: The spelling!

Take it from a smoker who spends THOUSANDS of dollars every year in restaurants what is going to happen to the states economy. What new liberal laws are they going to pass to protect your liberal cowering in fear of the agitated smoker who snaps and goes postal.

Cigarettes ARE HOMICIDE SUPPRESSION INHALERS! Don't mess with my medicine that keeps people like you alive! (just a figure of speech... kinda) :-)

SMOKING is a RIGHT! Not a privilege like... say driving.
Leave us smokers alone, second hand smoke STILL HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN, or has any one else noticed that smoking rates have gone WAY down over the past few decades yet still cancer rates have INCREASED, smoking is NOT to blame, we need to look at other possible causes like maybe PLASTIC, you laugh, but look at what usage has been on the rise since smoking rates have declined.
We have known for about a hundred years that oil causes cancer.
Look at what most of our daily dining ware is; both regular and disposable (fast food, junk food) have you ever noticed that when you pour cola into a plastic cup that there is an oily film floating

I don't know a single smoker who wants to quit! Why is it the assumption of liberal RETARDS that all smokers want to quit, I am not a quitter. I smoke so that you nonsmoking tree hugging liberals shall live.

I spent 8 years in the United States Marine Corps and when it came time for our annual physical fitness test ALL of the nonsmokers (the very few that there were) would poke fun, prod, and insult me, but then the starter pistol would go off and as I was passing their coughing wheezing slow as hell "healthy" ready to fall down and die asses I would inform them that perhaps they too should start smoking so that they could at least try to match my class 1 physical fitness score.

Smoking may be killing me; however it keeps others alive.

If second hand smoke was ANYWHERE near half as bad as the bulls**t liberal tree huggers try to make it out as; smokers would take one hit of their first cigarette and then they would fall down and die before they could exhale.

Nonsmokers go sell your s**t down the river to some ignorant 6 year old who does not know any better and is gullible enough to buy what you're selling.

SMOKING DOES NOT KILL! NONSMOKERS WHO TRY TO IMPOSE ON MY EARNED RIGHTS AS AN AMERICAN CAUSE THOSE DEATHS BY RAISING THE BLOOD PRESSURE AND AGGRAVATION OF THE SMOKER.

Do cigs kill people ?
Do guns kill people ?
If either of them do , then that would only stand to reason that ;
Pencils cause misspelling
Cars make people drive drunk
and spoons made Rosie ODonnell Fat .
HotD , you're giving me cat scratch fever !JK
