I have posted this as a response on the messageboards, to a dear fellow blogger who so respectfully, and eloquently, urged me to still consider voting in this Election. I decided to post it here as well.
Here was my response:
Dearest Writer,
I want to thank you SO much for your very encouraging, hearfelt, yet gentle urging, for me to reconsider not voting. I also respect the fact that you were only laying out the facts, and not putting me, or anyone else down, should I/we choose not to vote.
I continue to think long and hard regarding this issue, and I DO realize that not voting at all, is just like giving an endorsement to the other candidate. I am not sure I know which is worse....voting for someone I feel is the "Devil in disguise", or voting for someone whose policies scare me.
I actually was insulted by McCain's VP choice, because to me, it served only as a way to HOPEFULLY pull in the female vote, which I felt was the ONLY reason he chose her. I don't think it was at all because he thought this woman was the best choice for the job. That, in itself, has me questioning that if someone would go to those lengths JUST to try to "ensure" his chances of winning, then what other tactics might he use to get what he wants? He also, (to ME) seems out of touch with the working class.
With Obama, Well, you ALL know how I feel about HIM. I tend to believe that the magazine cover which portrayed "unfavorably" was, (I feel) more truth than not. Aside from the "feeling" I have about him wanting to destroy the U.S. from the "inside out", I think he is fooling the American public, I think that is EXACTLY what he plans to do. He is charismatic, well groomed, speaks clearly, but to me, everything he says, could be taken in two different contexts. Of course the people WILL find out eventually, but it will be too late by then.
If I put the same statements in two different people's mouths, I bet a dollar to a bucket of biscuits, that people would see them differently, yet they would be the EXACT same statements.
Example: Read each of thses statements, and tell me what your interpretation of it would be coming form each of these people, and why would it differ depending on WHO said it.
Obama: "The American people are due for a different type of leadership."
Osama: "The American people are due for a different type of leadership."
Obama: "We need to educate our children properly."
Osama: "We need to educate our children properly."
Obama: "I vow to change the destiny of every American."
Osama: "I vow to change the destiny of every American."
Obama: "The United States is going to experience a change like never before."
Osama: "The United States is going to experience a change like never before."
Now, I realize that this may seem a bit 'over the top', but it is the only way I know of to express the way I feel about this man.
I know that his supporters will say, "He doesn't mean the same thing Osama means when he says it." , but how do you KNOW that? And before you ask, "How do YOU know it?", the answer is I don't. but I FEEL it, and that matters most to ME. No one else has to think or feel this way, but I do. That is why I cannot possibly vote in this election with a clear head. Too many things are unanswered. Even the electrifying speech by my favorite former President, did not sway me. And that's SAYING something.
When statements are ambiguous, they usually favor the author, NOT the reader/listener/interpreter. (I know it is supposed to be the other way around, but most of the time, it isn't!)
I hope that clears it up for everyone who wants to know why I am not voting for Mr. Charisma.
For those who support him, I hope you are not sorry, and I also hope I end up being wrong. We'll see.

Hello all,
A friend sent me this link to a video. I assume it's about our candidates because he sent it to me after a political exchange between myself and a few others on the subject. I haven't watched it yet, because I'm not sure I want to know what it shows. He says watch it to the END, not just the 1st few minutes. If you guys decide to watch it, then I will just read your opinions here. I just don't want to see it myself for some reason. From the feedback so far, it is NOT GOOD.
http://www.theurbangrind.net/?p=2570
I don't happen to live in Detroit, but in reading a lot of the posts about this particular situation, it seems that everyone who is siding with the Mayor, thinks that this issue is about SEX. It may be, to a point, but it is not solely about that. Yes, he had an affair, and I could give less than a d*** about that. What I DO care about though, and what the REAL issue here is, is that he fired an officer for doing his job, and He and Ms. Beatty just considered it a "casualty of war" if you will. He also lied in court --ON TAPE!
As far as I'm concerned, what he does in or out of his his bedroom, is his and his wife's business, and we should have NO say in that whatsoever. What we SHOULD be concerned with, is that because he was trying to keep his little affair a secret, THAT is why he lied in court. THAT to me, is INEXCUSABLE!! How in the world can you justify ruining a man's career, slandering his name, and causing harm to him (and others) because you're trying to save your OWN @#!$? When you take away someone's ability to earn a living, you have no idea what residual damage you are causing as well. And unless you HAVE been fired for a bogus reason, you won't know what I mean.
So far, we have heard that Hizz-"on-her" has lied to Detroit about the SUV, the infamous "party", his wife allegedly "beating up a girl" at that "party", the firing of the officer, the Dancer who was found dead, and probably some new things too.
Do any of you "supporters" realize how many people could have been housed, clothed, or fed by $9,000,000? How about how many abandoned houses could have been torn down? How about how many school supplies could have been purchased? What about a good school breakfast for some of the school children who might not otherwise get a decent meal before school? Perhaps better salaries for teachers? What about Firefighters and Police Officers who have been laid off or fired because of budget cuts? There are SO many things that that money could have been better spent on. But no, we have people who still want to believe in him no matter what. It's great to have faith in your leader, but come on people, wake up and smell what's going on!
I have an idea! How about letting HIM pay the settlement out of his OWN pocket? (Oops, I forgot, he probably wouldn't have agreed to a settlement had it been his OWN money)
Legally, I hope that Ms. Worthy will be the prosecutor that she is supposed to be, and everything is done properly, and fairly, and by the book. He SHOULD have to pay the Piper, but even if he IS indicted, it's a pretty safe bet that he will NOT do any jail time. He will probably get his Law License "suspended" for a little while (like until his term is up), a "reprimand" of some kind, some sort of "token fine", and that will be that. If they do not indict him, then, well, we will just have to accept it, because there will be nothing the public can do about it anyway.
As one poster stated, there are others who did the same, but it seems like they didn't cause another to be slandered, and lose their job. It's just that if Detroit is to go "forward" as is the motto, then you should be able to trust your leader. How many of you that support him, would trust him to "pack your parachute" if necessary? .....just because he SAID he would?
This is not about "race" everyone. It shouldn't be "Wow, you're black, so how can you be against him", or "You're white, live in the suburbs, and you just hate him because he's black". This is about whether he did the wrong thing to that officer, and the People of Detroit, or not. Nothing else. If he is wrong, then he should be punished, as should she. If no proof is found to indict, or convict him, then so be it.
That's my 4 cents.
Sidenote: Car7858, my friend-- you shouldn't have to justify, defend, or explain your condition to anyone. You know your injuries are real, and you know you deserve compensation for them. And as far as the posting a while back about you being a "racist", I have never experienced that with you. You have been nothing but kind and courteous to me always, and I have a great respect for you, and what you have been through, as well as my best wishes for your continued recovery and sobriety. You have come a long way, and I am very proud to know you.
I wish you the best my friend, and take care!
The Smoking thing...

For Restaurants, I think it should absolutely be up to the business owner whether or not they allow smoking. Perhaps businesses that already have more than one floor/room could have an area of each, where the Nons would not even have to pass through the Smk sections. That would be fair.
Casinos and Bars on the other hand, almost always lose business when they go non smoking. What they don't seem to realize, is that smoking is an addictive behavior, just as drinking and gambling are. When you do one on a regular basis, you usually do the other as well. If there is no comfortable place to smoke when you drink, you more than likely will go someplace where you don't have to stop in the middle of your evening, to trot outside to enjoy a cigarette. While it's true that you may not lose business at first, non smokers most of the time, will only patronize your business once in a while, while smokers will come back again and again.
I, personally, get just as sick from heavy perfume, strong beer breath, and people blowing their noses right next to me, (which to me, is a million times worse than someone smoking in the same room) as I would from someone smoking in a restaurant. So, at this point, I guess it's just a matter of what bothers you the most.
This country seems to be losing more and more freedoms every day. Next, you won't be able to publicly eat a hamburger, because the PETA people will be mad, and for the same reason, Dry Cleaners may stop taking your Leathers and Furs so as not to offend. Where will it end?
Politcally Correct?

I know this is a little off as far as choosing a category, but in response to a messageboard poster, I thought I would add my 2 cents in My Blog.
As far as politically correct terms go, I am an American that just happens to be Black. I am STILL an AMERICAN!! I am so tired of all this "Political Correctness". Years ago, we didn't have all these ridiculous "rules". We can't SAY, or DO, anything nowadays without offending someone. If something offends you, then just remove yourself from the situation. It's that simple.
You can:
Turn off the TV
Turn the radio station
Leave the shopping center
Not see the movie
Not be around children, seniors, or pets, if they bother you
Not read the paper
and numerous other things if you are offended
They should be more concerned with:
Keeping abusers/stalkers/ex-mates in jail for longer than 5 years if they harm you, because that small amount of jail time only makes them madder, and come after you the moment they get out.
Doing better background checks on sex offenders who still manange to get jobs working with children, even though they have committed crimes against them.
Making sure everyone has health insurance and proper care.
Making sure Nurses and Dr.s do their jobs with knowledge, professionalism, and a bedside manner, instead of "How are you going to pay?"
Seeing to it that our children are taught at HOME, as well as at school.
Feeding your children, and providing the love and care that they need, instead of getting your hair/nails done, and running after your boyfriend, instead of worrying about the needs of your children. If parents would check their child's homework as thouroughly as they check their mate's pockets, voicemail, and email, we might really be onto something!
There are MANY things that need our attention more than whether someone calls you "Black" or "African American", or whether you can smoke somewhere, or whether or not you can display more than one sign for your business.
Get it together people! We all know what we are, and someone else's label, or interpretation of something is not that important to me. I would rather see children with full stomachs and a warm bed. Real safety for victims of abuse. Healthcare, and so much more.
Hooey to Politically Correct!!
P.S.
When Athiests stop spending the money the has "In God We Trust" on it, then they can talk to me about being PC!
With 11 bedrooms, and it's history, the Governor's Mansion sounds like a beautiful, and magnificent place. (and thank you fellow Fox2er "Tall" for the information). Now, I don't begrudge anyone a nice vacation home if they can afford it, but THEY are not affording it, WE ARE! And that luxury is just a bit much for my tax dollars right now. At this point, we have a struggling economy, so maybe they should consider closing it up for a while, and maybe forgo "entertaining" (including dignitaries, at least for the forseeable future.)
Believe me, if I was struggling with bills, I wouldn't be hosting dinner parties or anything else. If she wants to do that, let her pay for it out of her OWN pocket. (I know, I know, she would be entertaining "officials", so it qualifies as "work" that the taxpayers foot the bill for). Well, you know what? We, the State of Michigan, have at our disposal: phones, cell phones, 3 way calling, call waiting, call forwarding, text messaging, fax machines, email, voicemail, and stamps, for all or our communcation needs. I'm sure any of the above devices would work well to do business, if they would just put in the time that any particular device requires.
As any average "Joe" can tell you, when you are REALLY working, you don't have TIME to eat. And if by chance you DO have a chance to eat, you're lucky if you get 20 minutes!
Hmmmm, let's see...
The dinner invitation might go something like this:
Cocktails and Social Hour 4-6pm
Dinner 6-8pm
Music and Dancing 8-12 Midnight
Entertainment by "Jenny and the Grinners"
Wow, Great invitation, but I didn't see anything about WORK! just goes to show, that "entertainment expense" is really just a waste. We don't NEED it, and no one bothered to ask if we WANTED to pay for it! That goes for Inaugurations too, especially if it is your second time around. Have a family dinner at home, and call it a day!
Hey, here's another thought...
Maybe every government official that has the power to make, or introduce bills/laws, should live by the means they propose, for SIX months. If they can do it, (WITHOUT having access to their HUGE salaries, and bank accounts. Let them have access to a small amount to live on) THEN, they can make it into actual laws for the rest of us.
They would need to live off of what the average person makes in this state, and see if they can:
Buy groceries (for 4) for $100 or less a week
Pay rent/mortgage without being late.
Watch only basic cable
Be seen by a Dr. w/out any insurance (or money)
Buy $1 store reading glasses (no money to see an eye Dr.)
Afford all their utilities without being late
Ride the bus to and from work (or you could walk)
Go without "entertaining" (even for the Holidays)
Choose whether to buy food, or let your car insurance lapse
When they can PROVE that they can live off of $2000 a month or less, then, I will believe that they have the best interests of the State at heart. Until then, Fuggedaboutit!!
P.S....
If I were having trouble balancing MY budget, I would cut out luxuries like Cable, dining out, new clothes, travel, and entertainment, NOT food, gas, rent, utilities. etc....
Which is what it seemed like she was aiming for.
Get rid of the excesses Jen, not the basics!!
No one is saying that people from other lands are not welcome here. What we ARE saying, is why should you be able to SNEAK in, perhaps work under the table, pay no taxes into the system, but still be entitled to Govermental assistance and treated the same way as those who did it the right way? That would be a slap in the face to all of the LEGAL citizens who went through the proper channels to become so.
My family has worked hard, paid into the system, and is here because we were BORN here, but do you think we can get help when WE need it? Absolutely NOT! If you fall on hard times and need help, they make you jump through hoops, then you MIGHT get some help. But then illegals com in, and all they need is an ink pen, and the Govt says "Here you go!"
It's kind of like catching a bank robber, and before he goes to jail he says, "Oh, I didn't know I was doing anything against the law, so can I have another chance?" That would be ludicrous! Illegal is ILLEGAL, and that's all there is to it.
Become a citizen of this country through the proper channels, and no one will have a problem with it.
And just as a side note: I am really tired of our American Drs. going over to other countries with mile-wide smiles, and their chests puffed out because they have just performed some "miracle" procedure on a child whose family couldn't medical care. Hey!!, NEWSFLASH! we have millions of children (AND adults) in THIS country that are in need of medical care, and you never see someone donate their time and expertise for THAT. If every Dr., and or Health care facility, would donate just one day a year, and only see patients who otherwise couldn't afford health care, we might have a much healthier America! (Oh, I forgot, they don't want us to be healthier because they need room for all of the illegal immigrants. What was I thinking?)
My Dr. (The Angel that he is-- often sees me for free, or works out a payment plan for me) wanted me to have an EEG because he thought there might be a small bleed in my head, but I don't have insurance, so I have yet to have it. That was 4 years ago. The EEG facilty would not see me unless I had $300-500 up front, so here I am 4 years later, and still no EEG. I have headaches every single day, problems with my vision, my blood pressure, pain behind my eyes and little pea sized nodules in front of my ear, and occasional numbness in my lips, and cheek, but I can't do a thing about it because I am poor. I don't even qualify for the Medicaid program because we don't have a young child in the home, (and that makes me LESS sick?)
I guess I could pretend I'm not a U.S. Citizen. Maybe then I could get help. I hope something changes soon. I really would like to go to the dr. and have a THOROUGH check-up. Not just the weight, BP, and pulse check, that they are limited to when you have no money. Thanks for letting me vent. Take care America.

What the Republicans are failing to acknowledge, is that if "Johnny and the Cohorts" hadn't tried to "kill" the "patient" during THIER administration, "Dr." Granholm wouldn't have had to "operate" to save it now.
Let's put it this way, no one wants their leg amputated, but if you're on the tracks, and a train is coming, guess what?, The leg is going, you'd be grateful to be alive, and Iife would go on. ...even with one leg! Michigan needed help STAT, and it GOT it!
Go "Dr." Granholm!
If we shut down for even a "couple of days" as they state, that should be just enough time for people with expired tags to be ticketed, fined, and/or get points on their licenses for not being legal. With THAT money, (since there may not be any amnesty for those affected) there should be just about be enough to get the Government back up and running, (at least temporarily anyway). Why didn't they just ASK us in a vote or something, instead of this supposed "no other choice" shut down?
The other problem I am having with this is, that they are going to shut down the two things that provide our State with the most revenue?--the lottery, and the casinos?...WHAT??
Lastly, this nickel and diming us with the postal rates is getting tired. Why not just raise the rate to .45 to .50, and just be done with it for a while? A penny or two every time you turn around is just annoying. I would have no problem paying .50 to mail a letter if I knew they would leave it alone for a while. And the Government wonders why people use EMAIL. I'll tell you why, it's because you don't have to go out and get a page of penny stamps every time you want to send a letter!
I could go on and on, but I won't. ......for now.
