Perhaps the most telling thing about Obama's "Cling" speech, is that it was at a private fund raiser, doesn't that sound like an elitest gathering where a candidate can reveal his true thoughts because he is among like minded people? Small town folks cling to guns, and religion, and are bitter about the candidates who don't listen to them. And what is wrong with that? When the candidate attends a church pastored by a preacher who harbors anti-American sentiments, and his wife says she has only recently become proud of America, and the candidate himself says things behind closed doors that he would rather us small town folks not hear, maybe we should cling to something we can rely on. Maybe we should be bitter when he looks down his nose at us poor little small town folks. Don't pity us because we have religeon, don't look down on us because we are gun owners, and don't dismiss us because we are tired of politicians who are out of touch with what we must put up with everyday of our lives. And most of all, don't say one thing to us, and something entirely different to your friends, and expect us to blindly vote for you. We are small town folks, we are not the village idiots.

I agree with everything you said but he's not the only one. They think we're so gullible.

How true! I have said it before look at what they have done before deciding to run for office. Their previous actions and voting record is a better indicator of what they will do when elected rather than what they say they will do. The candidates also claim as you have stated to be in touch with and represent us poor, religious, gun owning folks. What they forget is the rich and elite they keep mentioning are themselves......a common man could never have a chance of being elected without the money and backers that they have....yet that is what it needs most a leader who has not lived in the political realm so long that they don't know how most Americans live and what problems they face.

Obama's coming down with a case of "foot in mouth" disease.

gadget410 if you got a leader like you describe the first thing you would holler is they don't have any experience or no voting record for you to look at. We complain about the rich and powerful and we complain about liberals who conservatives claim want to make the poor dependant on big government. Who moved my cheese?

Whether Obama meant what he said or not, he said it. Pay attention to the words of all those running. Make a choice and vote

While it might not be phrased in a delicate manner and fashion, tell me exactly where Obama is wrong?

If they keep talking they'll get themselves voted out of the race.

I think JIMBOB2 has a point in regard to being gullible. The reason they think this is because WE ARE. For example, how do you get a group of people who make less that $100K per year to vote against the estate tax? Well, you change the name. Now, most of us think that when old man Hilton goes way of the dinosaur, having Paris and Nikki pay their share of the taxes on his multi-million dollar empire isn't such a bad idea. But the millionaires have a problem with it, and they need blue-collar America to vote against the estate tax. So you rename it the "death tax." And blue-collar America, in their infinite wisdom, say to themselves, "Death tax! I don't wanna pay taxes after I'm dead! I'm against that!" and promptly vote against it. This embodies a phrase out of Mein Kampf: "All propoganda must be popular and its intellectual level must be adjusted to the most limited among those it is addressed to...The receptivity of the great masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence to these facts, all effective propoganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan." It worked in 1938, and it works now. Don't fault the politicians for using a proven system--fault those who embody it.

"Death Tax"....now, there's a thought...

Besides, what's wrong with guns and religion? -Good mix, if you think about it.....

Anybody here ever read Ted Nugent's book "God, Guns, and Rock and Roll"? - Yes it really is a book, and not a bad one at that.....

I agree mayberryman the avg. voting public is gullible and cast their vote based on who will or will not take their guns or since their God fearing ways are not sufficient to sway women to stop abortion they want their small government mindset to pass a law to force on women what their testimony and lifestyle can not achieve! What Obama said was true and like my grandma always said the truth hurts only those guilty of that truth!

You are right Axe the truth hurts and I am glad it is finally coming out. As has already been said... Let them talk...Let them all talk.
Once the words are spoken it is so hard to back up and appear in a different light.

You're right, Hank--you can't take it back after you say it. But never underestimate the power of "spin." I read that if Clinton keeps harping on Obama's use of "bitter, God and guns," it may actually hurt her because SHE appears bitter. And her desperate attempt to "fit in" with small-town America--throwing back a few shots/beers at the local bar, recounting how her father taught her how to shoot at the tender age of whatever--all this appears sycophantic. Spin is America's contribution to propoganda.

I forgot to add this--sorry for the double-entry. In order for a democracy to work, you simply MUST have an informed citizenry. And this is where we have failed. Democrat, Republican, Independent--whatever party we might belong to, we simply aren't as informed as we should be (ergo E.B.'s post last week). And with a growning anti-intellectual environment in this country, this problem doesn't appear to be correcting itself anytime soon. I especially see it in my field. In the 60's, 70's and early 80's, college students were one of the most politically active demographics in the country. They were young, educated (or on their way to becoming so), organized, vocal, mad as hell and not taking it anymore. That is not the case today. Ask your average 18-22 yr. old where they stand on a political issue, and they can't even tell you. And many times, their parents can't either.

You are right Mayberryman the spin never stops and the spin is directly related to the fine line of fact. Constantly straddling a single edge razor blade on a banana peal

So axe you are saying that the truth hurts the abortionists? Because they are guilty by association, right? Wording makes the sentence.

Who cares if he said it with intent or not? I mean, do you really think Obama will ever come to your house for dinner? These politicians live in a world few of us can imagine. They have their fingers in so many pies that they have to lick them to see what flavor they are supporting. Cling to faith & guns, so what? You can bet on this, if Hillary Clinton would by some sick chance be elected President of our country, she couldn't care less if you or I have a job or can affort to pay our bills, feed our children, or pay $5 a gallon for gas. I mean, she doesn't even drive a car. How would she know what gas costs? Do you really think she has ever had to decide between paying her house payment or getting a prescription filled? I think not. Neither have Obama or McCain.......Vote your heart, vote your choice (and I hope you think long and hard and pray, yes I say pray) that your choice is the best, but do vote. NC can make a difference in this election and we cant ride the fence on it. We have to be for or against someone..........make it count.

So, we should vote for a candidate based on whether or not we can see ourselves having an evening meal with them? What? We did that with the current administration, and you see where it got us. And caring whether or not you have a job--again, it was the current administration that gave tax breaks to those who ship corporate headquarters off shore. According to your criteria, pat, we shouldn't vote for anyone.

Caddy, what axe is saying is that in the free market of ideas, pro-lifers are unable to use logic or reason to convince women they do not have the right to govern their own reproductive rights, so they ask the government to pass legislation enforcing their perspective. Am I paraphrasing correctly, Axe?
