Well, Mother's Day weekend has come and gone, with the gas prices rising higher and higher before and during the weekend.  Next is Memorial Day (watch them continue to rise) and then once school is out, vacation season, including the 4th of July.  I wouldn't be surprised if the price of gasoline hits $4.00 per gallon by then.  What is the shortage at this time?  What has changed in the last week to make gasoline prices rise, other than the knowledge that people will be travelling, and will pay it regardless of how high it goes, because we NEED it?

Same old-same old there SARQ. GREED, plain old unadulterated GREED. The price in Kernersville this afternoon on 66 South was $3.06 for unleaded. I think you are right about the $4.00 price tag. Folks need to stay close to home and "visit" North Carolina. You would be surprised what this grand state has to offer. Day trips are great, especially with young kids, and or teenagers. Sure, you use gas for the travel, but look what you save on hotel bills and restaurant bills. Pack a picnic lunch and go see the sights. There is so much right here, and I am sure that if hotels and motels see a drastic decline, they may have some leverage on getting the gas prices lowered. A lot of families can't afford a trip out of town for a week if the gas is outrageous. It is something to think about. If you do travel, Virginia does have lower rates on gas. It was $2.78 on Sunday night, and here it was $2.94 ..go figure.

Staying home is an answer but why should we be punished so a few can get rich? Please note the blog "gas prices,(please participate) this would work. The only thing I would add is to stay away from Citgo as well as this is owned by Chavez. He hates this country but loves our money.

I agree with this idea, but getting "people" to comply, that's the problem. I'm not particular to any special gas company, I try to buy the "lowest" which isn't very low anymore. So if everyone would boycott these 3 gasoline companies, maybe the others "would" bring down their prices!!!

Well, it's the weekend before Memorial Day, and the gas prices are on the way up every day! We may hit $4.00/gal. by Memorial Day weekend, instead of the 4th of July!!!

Based on news reports, Venezuala has withdrawn from the IMF and the World Bank.

Which means their participation in OPEC will take full advantage of price increases.

Thank you for the information, JQP, so I guess the gas companies will use THAT as a reason to increase prices, even though we have plenty of other resources to obtain petroleum from. We will probably, most definately hit $4.00/gal. this week!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, if you haven't filled up, EVERYONE had best fill up all your vehicles tomorrow! It will probably be the lowest that we will see for a long time!

I don't see a reason why OPEC wouldn't try and take full advantage of their "situation". Within 5 years they could be bankrupt.

Take advantage of Chavez, awe come on JQP, why would OPEC take advantage of this "wonderful" man, the President of Venezuela? He wants to "help everyone" in the world, and from what he "says", he can! "They" wouldn't try to bankrupt "him"! (I hope you can see the "lace" of sarcasism). I saw how he had a "couple of celebrities" snowed after Katrina, but I know what he really is.

The rich can pay what ever the price is. But the ones that made him rich can hardly buy a tank full.

This is true, but we have to "try" to find the lowest prices. I don't believe in driving "long distances" for cheaper gas, because you just use up your gasoline to get there, but I try to buy the lowest in my area!

Anyone who still thinks we went into Ira for control of oil has now been proven to be complete fool. I don't really care who you are, I'll say it to your face and have done so many times.

It's pretty ironic that a week after Chirac gets defeated in France, "we don't need no stinking badges" Chavez decides to withdraw from the IMF.

Personally, I didn't know that Iraq had oil, if it does, it must not be much. It's Kuwait and Saudi Arabia that have the mega-oil fields.

It was reported earlier on FOX that Iran has had a price increase in their gas too. It has gone from 30 CENTS per gallon (US) to 38 CENTS per gallon (US). Imagine that if you will. According to the report, the gas went up due to the number of refineries being down for repairs. The last time I saw gas 30 cents per gallon was my Senior year in High School...1972. Ahhhhh, the good old days!

cindykay54, come on now, the lowest "I" remember gas prices being is between 40-45 cents (LOL). But seriously, I do remember the gas rationing of "even" and "odd" days (depending on the last number on your license plate). The next time your "getting gasoline" or "filling up" LOOK AT THE WHITE MAP that shows the southeastern states, on the gas pump. It states the price of the "gasoline tax" of each state in the region. I believe you will be "unpleasantly" surprised!!! I still haven't heard an explanation of WHY the prices are on their way UP again! I did hear this morning on the news that the oil companies are making a "tidy profit". NO KIDDING!!!

Hey Seaangel,

The sanction against Iran that would make the greatest impact (Ironically) is to stop the flow of gasoline to their country. It would cripple their country and would be easy to do. We could probably get them to do what we wanted without firing a shot.

The problem is that they might in turn stop producing oil taking oil to $200/ barrel (but I doubt they would because they need to produce oil for the revenue). They would threaten to stop pumping their oil, but I don't think they'd do it. They have very limited options, but the US needs to stop playing nice (that doesn't mean military).

I read that comment about your 21 year old daughter. I don't think she would be too young for me if you didn't think I'd be too old for her. You said she was with someone though, and I don't get involved with situations where I'd 'come between' or 'fight' for someone's affections.

email me at happythack@yahoo.com if you think she might be interested in a new friend. I'm near Burlington too. Send a pic if you want and have one. Thanks.

The US definately needs to stop playing "nice", and I don't mean military force, to get the oil here to refine. Do they have to pay anything for refining the oil? I know that they need at least "some" of our food products. I'm not saying starve them out of the oil, but, there are ways of getting progress on the "oil front" without bullets. Have you noticed the "white map tag" at the gas pumps and the amount of tax per gallon that NC pays as compared to the other states in the Southeastern region? (And yeah, check your email!)

seaangelrainqueen,
Thanks for the reply, I wish I had tried first to better explain policies, liability, and certain things which hamper Officers in the street, before I went on the defensive. I, know a lot of you really do support us and I am truely thankful for that. I should have tried to provide a way to help people understand or see certain matters through the eyes of Officers. There are so many issues that surround everything we do, and sometimes those issues can and have caused us to make choices in matters that even upset us. I know I really sound like I am standing on both sides of the fence, and yes I am. Because good Officers don't take sides, they take both sides of the issue and try to find away to work through the problem.

XRAYFIRE, you have no reason to apologize, although thank you anyway. You truly seem to be a "good police officer", and I do not know what area you serve, but I hope it is mine. You have stated exactly right, that there are many choices and "instant decisions" that you (and your fellow officers) must make, not counting putting your "life on the line" for a public that is usually disrespectful and unappreciative. I am a registered nurse, so I know about "split second decisions, life and death situations, and now with blood-borne diseases, putting "my life" on the line (not counting uncooperative or crazed patients). I apologize for my (I guess) overzealous defense of the wildlife of the area. Trust me, if the bear had actually "attacked" anything, I would have been at the front of the line saying "Shoot it!" That was my only concern, was that the situation could have been handled differently, but as I said in the Astrojet blog to you (please read it), hind site is 20/20. So, no, you have nothing to apologize to me for, and I respect yours and "everyone's" views and opinions and enjoy reading them. Some of our bloggers tend to take a subject into "another realm", so to say, and try to "place blame" and this is not what this is supposed to be about (or at least not for me). Thank you ever so much again, and God bless you and yours!

Hi, I'm a 46 yr. old mother of 4, widowed since 1995, so most of my children are grown. I have a fiance of 6 yrs., lots of grandchildren, 1 boy and 3 girls, plus 1 grand-pug. I LOVE the ocean (esp. Atlantic Beach, NC..God's country). I am an avid if not crazy Carolina Panthers fan and live to see football season so I can see them play. I'm a currently disabled Registered Nurse although I plan to go back to work when I am well. I love music (Go Chris Daughtry) from Counting Crows to Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins, etc. (very flexible). You kind of have to be with teens in the house. Fox 8 seems like a second family to me esp. Brad and Cindy, since I lived in Danville, VA at one time. So I hope any responses I have are informative and hold your interest. I'm also an animal lover of all kinds.
