The parents of the girl (16 yrs. old) who consented to marry her high school teacher (40 yrs. old) are now suing the Guilford Co. School System and the Brunswick Co. School System.  Hmmmm?  The parents had to SIGN for their daughter to get married, thereby giving their CONSENT.  Was this the plan all along?  Did they allow their daughter to marry her teacher in "anticipation of suing all involved"?  This is another mystery that I find remarkable.  If they didn't want their daughter to marry a 40 yr. old man, they didn't have to sign the consent form.  This will be interesting to see how this plays out!  What are your ideas on this subject?  I know we discussed about the age difference and the fact that he was her teacher, but this takes on a whole new meaning.  What do you think about the parents suing the school systems AFTER they signed the consent for her to marry her teacher?

I think this case should be thrown out and not waste any more time. They did not have to sign. No one made them sign. They may have signed because they didn't think they had a choice. That is crazy. I have a 17 year old and I am still her parent and I would not sign a consent form for her to marry for anything. They did have a choice, they chose and now they have to deal with the consequences. I wonder what their daughter and new son-in-law think about this.

Probably wondering how much of the money that the parents will let them have, if they win the case! I agree, this falls right in the same category as the judge that sued for 50+Million for his pants from the Korean dry cleaners. It is frivolous and should not even be considered as a case. Period.

I agree, they shouldnt have signed, and they shouldnt have a leg to stand on now. I am the parent of an 18 year old. She wanted to get married at 16, again at 17 (to the same person) and wanted me to sign. I told her if it was true love, she'd still love him at 18 when she could marry without ANYONE'S signature. LOL, she's still with him, but still no marriage, and she turned 18 6 months ago.

I agree with all of you. Should be thrown out of court and let them and their lawyer pay court costs. It is done and they signed for it to happen. Now live with it.

I'm totally in agreement with you, Vctroll. My immediate thought was "if you love him when you're 16, and you still love him when you're 18, marry him then." My guess is, that within 2 years, they wouldn't have been together anyway....

I agree that it is too late to be suing the School districts. However, I think someone needs to look into the law enforcement agencies that the parents went to. According to the parents, they went to every law enforcement agency available to them and none would do anything. If this is the case, the agnecies in question should definately be sued. I question why DSS didn't get involved in this. The parents had to be allowing this to happen. Where is the parental guidance in this. I know that I made my mistakes as my children were growing up but there is no way that I would have allowed my 16 year old daughter to date her 40 year old teacher.

Just-Me-07, when speaking of the police and DSS, that's where we go "full circle" back to the "when is your child of age", because when something like this happens, those agencies say that there isn't anything that they can do, because the girl was 16. But, she needed her parents consent to get married? They really need to make up their mind, is it 16, 17, 18 (or in HSM's case about her son's shot, 14)?!! But, as far as suing the school systems now, that's "putting the horse behind the cart"!!! They signed the papers, allowed them to marry, and it's too late to complain now. I KNOW a teenager is hard to control, but I would have a "statutory rape" charge against the 40 yr. old teacher BEFORE THEY GOT MARRIED, to keep him away from MY daughter, if I didn't like it. When the story first came out, the parents said they were alright with it!

I saw this morning in the paper their attorney said that the school needed to get a backbone and stop allowing this to happen. I agree the school does need to get on top of this. I remember the other blog about this. Many former students and people that knew the teacher told about alot of things that should have been warning signs to the school system. Having said that, I think the parents of this girl need to get a backbone as well. They should have never let this happen.

I totally agree with both of your statements. The school systems need to keep a "check" on their teachers, and investigate inappropriate action complaints against their staff. It is not only teachers, but recently a janitor was arrested for molesting students. So, yes, the school systems need to take appropriate action against these "pedophiles". But, yes, her parents needed to put their foot down and say "NO". No one forced them to sign the consent forms that enabled their daughter to marry this guy! If pregnancy is the issue, there are plenty of children born out of wedlock. If she is pregnant (although in the picture she didn't look as if she were, but that doesn't mean anything), then her parents could have either helped her raise the child, or gave the child up for adoption. I'm not even saying this is the case. But, if it were me, I would have been contacting the local magistrate to take out charges for statutory rape against him (if that was the case, either). I believe that the parents have received so much "ridicule" over this, that now they feel the need to "cover their actions".

I think it is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. I don't see how they even had the nerve to bring a law suit. The lawyer must be crazy as well or else looking to pad his billfold with this one. I don't think it will ever make it to court. All she had to do was tie her daughter's skirt tail to the bedpost and not let her out of the house. LOL This is crazy. Who ever heard of letting a 16 year old child date a 40 year old man. And what 40 year old man in his right mind would date a 16 year old. He is a sicko.

Exactly, DQB, her parents are going to look like that judge who sued the Korean dry cleaners (and I've never seen a lawyer who wasn't "looking to pad his billfold", LOL). They allowed "by consent" their daughter to marry a man that is probably older than her father, and he must be a pedophile preying on children. You're right, he's a "sicko".

you two have forgotten that "she" is a sicko too. She is the one who married 40 year Brent Wuchae

I'm sorry, hello1234, you're right, she is a "sicko" too (or a gold-digger) because she probably figures, if she stays married to him, that he'll die before very many years, and then she'll inherit all he has already worked for, and what he will have by then. She has a "child's" mind, and I'm sorry, but at 16, girls usually change boyfriends like they change their clothes! I just don't see it lasting, but it's not for me to guess.

The pranets had a choice they could have done any number of things to stop it if they really wanted to,if it had been my child he would be asking God for mercy by the time I got done with him.A man of that age has nothing in common with a teenager other than to control her,I hate to think of what the real reason is that he married a child of that age.

That is so true! That's why I said he is probably older than her father. I don't expect it to last long. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with someone's age difference if it's within a "decent range". But, 24 yrs.? That's quite a difference. And, the fact that he was her "teacher" made the relationship "off limits" in the first place, in my opinion!!!

And don't worry about the "double-click", ianorphan, we all do it all the time! I fixed it for you. (Too bad that we can't fix it ourselves, but we can't unless it is our blog site.) Have a great day!!!

done with him???? You need to deal with your child first, if you cannot stop him/her from dating a teacher then you should go and talk to the teacher. Yes the parents could have stopped it but they chose not too. Now they want money for their own failure. How sick....

The parents need to forget about it and just move on.

If her father were any kind of real man, he'd have opened a large can of whup___, when it was first discovered. It might not be legal, but it's highly effective. Then they wouldn't be where they are now. Something is definitely wrong with each member of those families. These kind of news stories, are why NC gets a bad rap.

Yes, when the father first found out he should have open a large can of something (not sure what this is) on his daughter and maybe that would have stopped it. I don't know what the parents are after except maybe money. How about that, they want to trade their daughter for money.

Hi, I'm a 46 yr. old mother of 4, widowed since 1995, so most of my children are grown. I have a fiance of 6 yrs., lots of grandchildren, 1 boy and 3 girls, plus 1 grand-pug. I LOVE the ocean (esp. Atlantic Beach, NC..God's country). I am an avid if not crazy Carolina Panthers fan and live to see football season so I can see them play. I'm a currently disabled Registered Nurse although I plan to go back to work when I am well. I love music (Go Chris Daughtry) from Counting Crows to Carrie Underwood, Trace Adkins, etc. (very flexible). You kind of have to be with teens in the house. Fox 8 seems like a second family to me esp. Brad and Cindy, since I lived in Danville, VA at one time. So I hope any responses I have are informative and hold your interest. I'm also an animal lover of all kinds.
